PRIME MINISTER VIRTUALLY LAYS FOUNDATION STONE FOR IT PARK AND FOOTBALL STADIUM IN TURA

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually laid the foundation stone for the IT Park in Tura and Football Stadium in Dalu under West Garo Hills on 9th March, 2024. The programme held at Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh was telecast live at Deputy Commissioner’s Office Complex, West Garo Hills, Tura where Deputy Commissioner Jagdish Chelani, Heads of Departments, Teachers and Students from various schools and colleges participated in the event.

It may be mentioned that the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi was on a one day visit to Arunachal Pradesh and attends Viksit Bharat Viksit Northeast and inaugurated the Worlds Longest twin-lane tunnel Sela Tunnel and also laid the foundation stone for Dibang Multi Purpose Hydropower Project which will be the highest dam structure in the country amongst other projects at Itanagar. The Prime Minister then simultaneously inaugurated and laid foundation stones of several projects for six North-Eastern States valued at about Rs. 55,000/- Crore and developmental projects worth about Rs 300 Crore was also allocated for Meghalaya. The six North-eastern States are Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Tripura, Nagaland, Manipur and Meghalaya.

GOVERNOR ATTENDS PM VIRTUAL INAUGURATION OF PROJECTS IN THE NORTH EASTERN REGION

The Hon’ble Governor of Meghalaya, Shri Phagu Chauhan, today attended the inauguration of projects in the North Eastern Region by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, through virtual mode, underscoring the importance of these endeavours for the state's progress.

The Prime Minister, from Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, unveiled a slew of projects in the Northeast which included laying foundation stones for two significant projects in Meghalaya namely the construction of new Four-Lane Road and Conversion of Existing Two Lanes into Four Lanes at New Shillong Township and the Construction of the IT Park at Tura. The Prime Minister also inaugurated multiple development initiatives aimed at fostering infrastructure and socio-economic growth in Meghalaya namely Khadi Plaza/Market Complex at Barik Point, Shillong, Mini Football Stadium at Dalu, West Garo Hills District, VIP Gallery and RCC Covered Public Sitting Gallery at Chondon Nokat, South West Garo Hills District, Farmers' Hostel-cum-Training Centre at Upper Shillong, East Khasi Hills District, Automation of Child Helpline and Integration with ERSS 112 and Capacity Development on Smart Devices Forensics and Creation of Resource Centre for the North Eastern Police Forces.

MOCK DRILL ON CAVE EVACUATION DURING DISASTER, AT MAWMLUH CAVE, SOHRA

In a First of its kind, the Meghalaya Administrative Training Institute, Shillong and the District Disaster Management Authority, East Khasi Hills District, collaboratively conducted a Mock drill on Cave Evacuation during Disaster, at Mawmluh Cave, Sohra, and the world acclaimed IUGS geological site, on the 9th of March 2024.

The Drill was aimed at ensuring prompt response by the various teams and rescuers during disastrous events such as rescuing trapped people, checking response and functionality of equipment, communication sets, etc and to establish Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for Cave Evacuation.

The main trainers were the members of the Meghalaya Adventurers Association, who were trained in cave evacuation and rescue in the UK and Ireland. Prior to the day of the exercise, a session was held at the DRDA Hall, Shillong among all stakeholders and participants, whereby the Meghalaya Adventurers Association (MAA)  briefed on the roles and techniques of rescue teams in the event of disasters like earthquake  etc. in cave.

The program was enthusiastically participated by officials from DDMA, MATI,SDO (C) Sohra along with teams from Police Department, Fire & Emergency Services, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), MPRO,Medical Team, Meghalaya Adventurers Association, Meghalaya Sport Climbing and Mountaineering Association, Village volunteers, M/s. INI Design Studio  Pvt. Ltd etc.
