TRAINING OF TRAINERS (TOT) PROGRAMME ON PSYCHOSOCIAL CARE IN DISASTERS HELD

The Additional Deputy Commissioner and CEO, DDMA, East Khasi Hills District has informed that a three day Training of Trainers (TOT) programme on Psychosocial Care in Disasters organized by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), East Khasi Hills held at St. Anthony’s College, Shillong concluded recently. The workshop was conducted by the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences, (Institute of National Importance), Bengalaru under the aegis of the USAID-MHA-UNDP partnership project titles, “Developing Resilient Cities through Risk Reduction in the context of Disasters and Climate Change” which is being implemented in Shillong. A total of 33 participants from various government and non-government agencies were trained to become Master Trainers in the field of psychosocial care who in turn would capacitate their respective departmental staff on the topic. Such trained people would be able to render their services in the area of psychosocial care in the event of disaster in the city and neighbouring areas.

NATIONAL LOK ADALAT

As per the revised schedule, the National Lok Adalat will now be held on 21st April 2018 from 10:00 AM onward in the premises of District & Sessions Court, Tura and all concerned are requested to attend the same for settlement, disposal of their cases. This was informed by the Secretary of District Legal Services Authority, West Garo Hills, Tura.

NITI FORUM AT AGARTALA

The Niti Forum was constituted at Agartala for the Northeastern States, which was attended by Minister of State DoNER Dr. Jitendra Singh and Vice Chairman of Niti Aayog, Shri Rajiv Kumar. Meghalaya Chief Minister, Shri Conrad K. Sangma was present along with Tripura Chief Minister Shri Biplab Kumar Deb, Nagaland Chief Minister, Shri Neiphiu Rio and other ministers from different State of Northeast. In the day long deliberations, the members of the Niti Forum for Northeast expressed their views and suggestion on the thrust area which can propel development including Hydel Power, Tourism, Border Trade, Bamboo, Floriculture, Medicinal plants, Horticulture, Handicrafts, Animal Husbandry, Organic Farming, etc. Meghalaya Chief Minister, Shri Conrad K. Sangma expressed his concern on infrastructure development including air connectivity between Northeast and other Asean countries and proper road connectivity between all State capitals of the region. “2022 National Games in Meghalaya should be treated as an event for Northeast and momentum of growth and development should be accelerated”, the Chief Minister said. He also remarked that formation of Niti Aayog Forum would go a long way in realizing the potentials of Northeast, as all the States will come together to address challenges based on similarities and commonalities to chart out an action plan. Chief Minister, Shri Conrad K. Sangma also expressed his concern on climate change and expressed his views on mitigation and adaptation. “There is a need to create small check dams and reservoirs and hybrid system for power, so that we are able to tap the potential of our resources”, he said. “I am optimistic that Niti Aayog Forum for Northeast would be able to guide each States to move forward with specific suggestions and ideas”, the Chief Minister said. He informed the gathering that Meghalaya is contemplating to chart out a policy on waste disposal management and would recycle plastics and engage communities to produce organic manures from bio wastes.
