Press Release No. 140/09 PRESS RELEASE Meghalaya Governor, Mr R S Mooshahary today inaugurated two Tourist Amenties at Nohkalikai Falls and Mawsmai cave at Sohra which includes Kiosks, parking lot, toilet and ticketing counters amounting to Rs 21 Lacs each. The project is being sponsored by the Union Ministry of Tourism for development of Circuit tourism from Byrnihat towards the tourist destinations of the State. This project is meant for developing of the basic amenities for tourism in the State as a whole. These project would be handed over to the local dorbars for maintenance and further promotion of tourism in the area. Speaking on the occasions, Mr Mooshahary said that Sohra as a tourist destination has a lot to offer to the tourists who admires scenic beauty but he lamented that the lack of basic facilities may affect the inflow of tourists to the area. He said that with the inauguration of the tourist amenties in the areas, the tourist would benefit to a large extend and it would also attract other tourists to visit the State. He said that Meghalaya is known to observe hygenic discipline in their cuisine and especially in their surroundings which he felt that it would be the main source of attraction to the tourists who visits the State. The tourist amenities would be handed over to the village dorbars for maintaining and also for generating income for the dorbar. He stated that the economy of Sohra largely depends on Tourism. Therefore he urged upon the dorbars to extend their full cooperation to the government in promoting tourism in the areas which he felt would generate more income and develop the economy of the State especially Sohra. Reffering to the caves of Meghalaya, Mr Mooshashary said that the cave of Meghalaya are world renowned and people from different parts of the world, especially cave adventurers are looking forward to explore and experience the thrilling adventure of cave tourism. Later, Mr Mooshahary also visited the Meghalaya Cherra Cement Ltd factory where he inspected the production sites and also interacted with the employees of the factory. He felt that the production of cement could be enhanced and all efforts should be taken to ensure that cement production is achieved as per its target and the employees of the factory are not affected. |
