CIVIL SERVICES DAY CELEBRATED

Shillong, April 20, 2015: The Civil Services Day under the theme, “Emerging Challenges in Governance” was celebrated today at the State Convention Centre, Shillong. Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister, Dr. R. C. Laloo graced the function as the Chief Guest while Meghalaya Home Minister, Smti Roshan Warjri was the Guest of Honour.

Addresing the inaugural function, Dr. Laloo said that the people of the country has become more demanding and as such the civil servants have to be more proactive and responsible and upgrade their effectiveness to address the growing need. He further urged the civil servants to use the latest technologies that are available in order to tackle the emerging challenges in the present governance and also for a good service delivery to the people and for the nation as a whole.

Smti Roshan Warjri said that civil service has lent a commendable job with the emerging challenges in the present day governance. She urged the officers to rededicate themselves to the cause of the people and serve the nation to the best. “The process of administration has to be re-engineered to adapt with the ever changing generation for the delivery of good governance so as to enable the civil servants to address the expectations of the people and the nation”, she added.

Meghalaya Chief Secretary, Shri P. B. O. Warjri while giving a keynote address said that the interaction and close association with the ministers is the most dynamic relationship for the smooth delivery of service. He further added that the basic duties with regards to the ethical adherence and to the Constitution remains the same and urged the officer to update themselves with the expectations of the pressure groups and to identify those between the society and that of an individual and to deal with necessary requirements accordingly for the development of the society and the nation.

Others who spoke at the inaugural function were Shri M. R. Synrem, Secretary, Government of Meghalaya and Shri Sanjay Goyal, Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills, Shillong.

The inaugural function was followed by a Panel Discussion on a theme,“Emerging Challenges In Governance” whereby Shri P. S. Kumar, IAS moderated the discussions and Shri A.K. Tigidi, IAS (Retd), Shri U. K. Sangma, IAS, (Retd), Shri N. Ramachandran, IPS (Retd), Shri V. K. Nautiyal, IFS (Retd) and Shri Toki Blah presided over as panelist members.

Thereafter presentations were made on various topics namely, “Black Topping of Rural Roads” by Shri K. N. Kumar, Principal Secretary,“Community Participation in Increasing the Protected Forest Area in Meghalaya” by Shri Y. S. Shullai, Additional PCCF, “Meghalaya Health Insurance Scheme” by Shri M. R. Synrem, Secretary, “Safe and Secure Shillong” by Shri M. Kharkrang, Superintendent of Police, Shillong“Integrated Village Development Plan” by Shri A. S. Suting, Research Officer and “Enterprise Facilitation Centre” by P. Jain, Principal Secretary.
