CM INAUGURATES CIVIL SERVICES DAY

Meghalaya Chief Minister, Shri. Conrad Sangma today inaugurated the Civil Services Day 2018 in a function held at the State Convention Centre, Shillong. The theme of this year’s celebration was “Improving Public Service Delivery Through Innovations”. In attendance were senior IAS, IPS, IFS MCS, MPC AND SFS officers of the state, led by the Meghalaya Chief Secretary Shri. Y Tsering. Speaking as the Chief Guest, the Chief Minister congratulated the civil servants present and commended them on the service rendered to the people of the State over the years. He also reminded them that while performing their duties they should always keep in mind the bigger picture, which will enable them make the right decisions at all times. Citing that the goal of the Government is to make a difference in the lives of its people, he urged the civil servants to utilise their knowledge and vast experience in making a difference in the lives of the people. Referring to the theme of the celebration, the Chief Minister stated that innovation is not subjected only to technology, however adopting process innovations in implementing plans and schemes of the government, can also bring about desired change for the State as a whole.

NOTICE

In exercise of the power conferred by Rule, 118 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 and in compliance with the direction of Hon’ble Supreme Court vide its order dated 18.08.2011 in S.L.P (Civil) No. 17135/2008 and Notification of the Government of India, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, New Delhi vide GSR No. 290(E), dated 15.04.2015 which has mandated fitment of Speed Governor (Speed Limiting Device) in certain categories of the Transport Vehicles, the State Government hereby informs all concerned that potential dealers should seek the Department’s approval for marketing the Speed Limiting Device that conform to the approval specifications of the Government of India. This was informed by the Commissioner of Transport, Meghalaya, Shillong.

SPECIAL INTENSIFIED MISSION INDRADHANUSH PROGRAMME

The Department of Health & Family Welfare, East Khasi Hills, Shillong will conduct the Special Intensified Mission Indradhanush Programme under Gram Swaraj Abhiyan in the District from 23rd – 27th April, 2018. The goal of the programme is to provide immunization to children below 2 years of age and also for pregnant women. Parents are therefore requested to bring their children below 2 years of age who are due for immunization to the session sites in their respective locality for vaccination. Headmen, NGOs, Church leaders etc. are also requested to join hands with the Department of Health & Family Welfare for the success of the programme, to ensure that our children are fully immunized.

SAUBHAGYA SCHEME LAUNCHED IN THE STATE

Meghalaya Chief Minister, Shri. Conrad K Sangma along with Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power and New & Renewable Energy, Government of India, Shri. R.K Singh launched the Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana (Saubhagya) at U Soso Tham Auditorium in the city today. Present at the launch programme were Meghalaya Power Minister, Shri. James P K Sangma, Chairman, Meghalaya Industrial Development Corporation Ltd (MIDC), Shri. Rupert M Momin, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Power, Government of India, Dr. A.K Verma, Additional Chief Secretary, Government of Meghalaya & Chairman cum MD, MeECL, Shri. P.S Thangkhiew, Additional Chief Secretary in- charge Power, Government of Meghalaya, Shri. M.S Rao, CMD, NEEPCO, Shri. AG West Kharkongor and others. During his address at the programme, Meghalaya Chief Minister, Shri. Conrad K Sangma said that “Saubhagya” is a wonderful Scheme launched by the Government of India while also stating that the Government of Meghalaya would make efforts to ensure that the goal of providing electricity to the unconnected villages in the State is met within the target date set by the Government of India. The Chief Minister also spoke of the need to explore alternative means of power generation including Hybrid Systems where Small Hydro Projects may be combined with solar energy or wind energy in order to boost power generation in the State. The Chief Minister on the occasion called for a concerted effort of all stakeholders including the Government, the officials and the public towards saving energy even as he stated that the “Saubhagya” Scheme will help change the economic condition in different parts of the country.

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power and New & Renewable Energy, Government of India, Shri. R.K Singh in his speech meanwhile, said that the “Saubhagya” scheme is a revolutionary scheme while also stating that the Central Government is committed towards ensuring power connectivity to the unconnected villages across the Country. The Minister also said that the key to all round development of the Country lies in laying down focus targets for the poor, needy and deprived sections of society. The Chief Minister along with the Union Minister of State distributed sanction orders for free household electricity connections under the “Saubhagya” Scheme to 30 selected beneficiaries on the occasion.

Others who spoke at the programme include Meghalaya Power Minister, Shri. James P K Sangma, Additional Chief Secretary, Government of Meghalaya & Chairman cum MD, MeECL, Shri. P.S Thangkhiew and Additional Chief Secretary in- charge Power, Government of Meghalaya, Shri. M.S Rao. It may be mentioned that the Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana –“Saubhagya” is a new Scheme launched by the Prime Minister, Shri. Narendra Modi on 25th September, 2017 and is aimed at electrification of all households in the country, in both rural and urban areas. The objective of the Scheme is to achieve universal household electrification, creation of last mile connectivity to all households in rural and urban areas and to provide electricity connection to all willing un-electrified households in rural and urban areas. No upfront fee for availing electricity connection and no charges of fees for poor households are some of the salient features of this Scheme.
