CIVIL SERVICES DAY 2017 CELEBRATED

Civil Services Day, 2017 with the theme “Challenges in Delivery of Public Services” was celebrated today at Pinewood Hotel, Shillong where Meghalaya Minister in-charge , Information Technology, Information & Public Relations, etc, Dr M. Ampareen Lyngdoh graced the Inaugural Session as Chief Guest. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Lyngdoh highlighted on the importance of civil servants working in unison with the political leaders as the two are inseparable in effective public service delivery. While stressing on ensuring accountability at both political and bureaucratic level, she exhorted the civil servants to fight against all odds and break barriers for good governance. While emphasizing that perseverance, dedication and hard-work are the key elements to good governance, she called upon the officers to take up the challenges and contribute for the betterment of the state and the society as a whole and make ‘people feel worthy and proud of being Indian citizens.’ Earlier, while delivering the welcome address, Meghalaya Chief Secretary, Shri.K.S Kropha, IAS spoke of the need to break the stereotype and focus on citizen-centric governance. Shri. Kropha also said that the key to effective service delivery lay in the synergy between the political leadership and the bureaucracy and urged upon all concerned to contribute their best in the interest of the state and the nation. Later in the day, the address of the Honourable Prime Minister, Shri. Narendra Modi was webcasted live from Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi on the occasion of the 11th Civil Services Day. The inaugural function was followed by three technical sessions with Dr. A. Didar Singh, IAS (retd), Secretary General, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), Shri. P J P Hanaman, IPS (retd), Member Meghalaya Human Rights Commission and a team of officers from the Forest & Environment Department, Meghalaya respectively.

SECTION 144 CRPC

To protect the river Myntdu from being polluted which is the source of Jowai Water Supply to Jowai Town and to safeguard public health, the District Magistrate of West Jaintia Hills has issued an order under Section 144CrPC prohibiting dumping of waste material, solid or liquid etc. in Myntdu River and discharge in any form either from the stone quarries, garage workshops residential houses, localities, private and public enterprises, toilets should not be allowed to flow directly to the Myntdu river. The District Magistrate has also ordered for immediate stoppage of quarries from the upstream of the Myntdu river. The order has been issued in view of the report received from the office of the Sub-Divisional (PHE), Electrical Sub-Division, Jowai that the quality of water in the river Myntdu is severely affected day by day due to washing of clothes and vehicles on the upstream of the river.

MOBILIZATION CAMP FOR SKILL TRAINING PROGRAMME

The Shillong Municipal Board will be organising a one day mobilization camp for skill training programme under EST&P component of NULM on the 28th April, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Don Bosco Hall, Laitumkhrah, Shillong. This was informed by the Chief Executive Officer, Shillong Municipal Board. The Employment through Skills Training & Placement (EST&P) component under NULM is designed to provide skills to the unskilled urban poor as well as to upgrade their existing skills. The programme will enable them to set up self-employment ventures and for salaried jobs in the private sector. The EST&P Program intends to fill the gap between the demand and availability of local skills by providing training programs as required by the market. The objective is to provide an asset to the urban poor in the form of skills for sustainable livelihood, increase the income of urban poor through structured, market-oriented certified courses that can provide salaried employment and /or self-employment opportunities which will eventually lead to better living standards and alleviation of urban poverty on a sustainable basis and to ensure inclusive growth with increased contribution of skilled urban poor to the national economy. The candidate should meet the minimum qualification as per requirement of trade to trade.

JEEVAN RAKSHA PADAK SERIES OF AWARD, 2017

This is for the information of the general public that the Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs has instituted an Award designed “Jeevan Raksha Padak Series of Award, 2017” for meritorious acts of humane nature in saving the life of a person in incidents like drowning, accidents, fire incidents, electrocution, landslides, animal attack and rescue operation in mines etc. As the name of the award suggests, the award is given to a rescuer for saving someone’s life. The awards are given in three categories: i) Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak, ii) Uttam Jeevan Raksha Padak and iii) Jeevan Raksha Padak. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather warning whereby heavy to very heavy rain is very likely at a few places with extremely heavy at isolated places over Assam and Meghalaya from 22nd -25th April, 2017.
