RESUBELPARA FELICITATES CM

Shillong, 24th April: Following its fellow citizens of Ampati, the North Garo Hills Demand Committee, held an impressive felicitation programme for Dr Mukul Sangma, today at Resubelpara. Resubelpara is one among the four districts to be created in Meghalaya.

Dr Mukul Sangma, in his address to the public said that though the people are facing certain difficulties, the government is capable of addressing the deficiencies and is committed on meeting to the needs of the people. He informed that the various endeavors of the government will transform the state. He assured that schemes which are meant for the people will reach everyone without any discrimination.

The Chief Minister said that the creation of North Garo Hills will open up new avenues and opportunities besides promoting trade and commerce. He informed that initially the new district will function with an administrative unit, office of the Superintendent of Police, Agriculture and other allied sectors.

Expressing concern over the education scenario in the state and the performance of the youth in competitive examinations Dr Sangma said that coaching institutions will be set up in Shillong and Tura where aspiring candidates will be trained and counseled free of cost. Dr Sangma said that the government has come up with an idea to set up residential schools in every block of the state to bring about quality education in every nook and corner of the Meghalaya.

While mentioning about the Integrated Basin Development and Livelihood Programme, the Government’s flagship initiative, Dr Sangma informed that even landless entrepreneurs can partner with the government by manufacturing feed for the fish as part of the Aqua culture mission under the IBDLP. Commenting on the important role of the community in bringing about overall development Dr Sangma announced an attractive incentive to rope in the participation of the people in maintaining cleanliness and hygiene whereby a cash award of Rupees 10 lacs for urban areas, Two lacs for blocks and one lac for hamlets with below fifty households will be awarded.

Dr Sangma stressed on the need of peace in the developmental process and urged the NGOs especially the religious leaders to work with the government to bring the misguided youth back into the mainstream. He also mentioned that there should not be any partiality or discrimination among the different party members in the greater interest of the people.

The felicitation was attended by important political luminaries including D.D. Lapang, President, MPCC, A.T. Mondal, Minister, Power and Saleng A Sangma, Minister, C & RD.
