BLOCK LEVEL SCIENCE AND ENVIRONMENTAL FAIR 2011

Shillong, April 27, 2011: The office of the District Planning Officer, East Khasi Hills District will organize the Block Level Science & Environmental Fair 2011 from Class V-X from May 3-31, 2011.

On May 3, 2011, the Fair will be held at St. Francis Xavier School, Mawsynram, Mawsynram, on May 11, 2011 at St. Peter HSS, Laitkroh, Laitkroh-Khadarshnong, on May 13, 2011 at Mawryngkneng HSS, Mawryngkneng, on May 18, 2011 at Langkyrdem Khadarblang Secondary School, Pynursla. At Shella Bholaganj Block, the Fair will be held on May 20, 2011 at St. Peter & Paul Mawkisyiem, at Mawkynrew Block on May 25, 2011 at Good Shepherd HSS, on May 27, 2011 at Gorkha HSS, Mylliem and on May 31, 2011 at St. Paul HSS, Mawphlang.

REVISED CITIZENS CHARTER OF THE MINISTRY OF TRIBAL AFFAIRS PUBLISHED

Shillong, April 27, 2011: The Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India has recently published the revised Citizen’s Charter with a vision to facilitate the reduction and removal of the gap in the Human Development Indices of the Scheduled Tribe population and help empower them socially and economically.

In its pursuit to promote the interest of STs, the Ministry complements the effort by way of various developmental interventions in service deficient areas in certain critical sectors through specially tailored schemes. These schemes aim at the economic, educational and social upliftment of the STs and are being implemented through the State Governments, UTs and voluntary organizations.

Services provided by the Ministry includes release of financial assistance for welfare and socio-economic development, poverty alleviation and entrepreneurship development, financial assistance for educational facilities by way of hostels and residential schools and scholarships at the post Matric stage, financial assistance for vocational training in tribal areas, socio-economic development of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups, financial assistance for conducting research, seminars, workshops on tribal related issues, monitoring and evaluation studies on schemes of the Ministry, tribal festivals, exchange of visits, financial assistance for support to Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India and State Level Cooperation, to provide inputs/comments on the policy documents/matters, legislation proposals, cabinet notes and EFC Memoranda of various Central line Ministries/Departments, in order to safeguard the interests of STs, to represent the interests of STs through suggestions/policy inputs in the meetings of various Working Groups, Expert Groups, Task Forces and Governing Councils constituted in various Central Ministries/Departments and Planning Commission, redressal and disposal of complaints/grievances of employees/service providers to the Ministry.

It may be mentioned that a Citizen's Charter is a document aims at making administration accountable, citizen friendly and transparent.

SUPREME COURT DIRECTS BOGUS RATION CARDS HOLDERS TO SURRENDER CARDS

Shillong, April 27, 2011: In order to streamline the Public Distribution System, the Supreme Court of India has directed that all Bogus Ration Cards of all categories, ie., APL, BPL, AAY should be eliminated. This was informed by the Deputy Commissioner (Supply), East Khasi Hills District.

The apex court has also directed to any/all such Bogus Ration Card holders to surrender such ration cards within a period of 15 days failing which stringent action/exemplary punishment will be meted out to such holders on detection subsequently.

For this purpose, “Bogus Card Holders” also apply to persons and families holding more than one card.

COMMERCIAL VEHICLE OWNERS DIRECTED TO RENEW PERMIT

Shillong, April 27, 2011: In pursuance of the Section (1) of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, the Secretary, Regional Transport Authority, East Khasi Hills has directed that no owner of a motor vehicle shall use or permit the use of the vehicle as transport vehicle in any public place except in accordance with the conditions of a permit granted or countersigned by Regional or State Transport Authority or any prescribed authority authorizing him the use of vehicle in place in the manner in which the vehicle is being used.

The Secretary RTA further informed that as per office records, there are owners of local taxis/auto-rickshaws etc who did not renew the road permit of their vehicles in time. Therefore, all owners of those vehicles are directed to renew their permits in time, failing which a fine not exceeding Rs. 5000/- but not less than Rs. 2000/- will be imposed from those vehicle owners.

This order will come into force with effect from 15.5.2011.
