Press Release No. 190/09 GOVERNOR ATTENDS VARSITY FEST 2009 GRAND FINALE “Learning to live together in tolerance is the substance of Education”, said the Meghalaya Governor Mr R S Mooshahary who is also the Chief Rector of North Eastern Hills University (NEHU) while addressing the closing function of the Varsity Fest 2009 of the NEHU Students’ Union held in the university campus, Shillong today. Mr Mooshahary said that the students studying in the university should feel blessed to be able to avail the educational facilities provided by NEHU, which is one of the best universities in the country. He urges upon the students to justify the blessing by contributing positively towards the welfare of the society. He stated that one third of the country’s population are the youth and that energy of the youth should be harnessed and utilised towards the development of the nation. He said that the students of the university should become the change and make efforts to root out the social problems that are ailing the society. Mr Mooshahary said that learning is a life long pursuit that can make people evolve into a better human being. He said that education can change the mind set of the people of the North East and open their mind to grow together even with people from outside the region as growing in isolation is not healthy. Mr Mooshahary also handed over the Wipro Academic Excellence Award to seven outstanding students of different departments of the university. Among others who spoke on the occasion were the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. P Tandon. During the varsity fest, NEHUSU organised competitions among the students on both academic and co-curricular activities. |
