Press Release No. 124/24 INTER SCHOOL ATHLETIC MEET 2024 IN SWKH The 10th District Level Inter- School Athletic Meet, 2024 kicked off today the 30th April, 2024 at Rowell Lyngdoh Stadium, Mawlangwir, South West Khasi Hills District. A total of 23 Schools participated in this year’s Inter School Athletic Meet and around 600 athletes will be competing in the three days track and field events showcasing their athletic talents and celebrating sportsmanship. In his address, the District Sports Officer, South West Khasi Hills District, Mawkyrwat, Shri. D. Syngkon stated that the District Level Inter School Athletic Meet is an annual sporting event hosted by the office of the District Sports Officer to provide a platform to all the young talented School athletes and participants to showcase their talents in athletic sporting capabilities. He extended his best wishes to all the athletes and encouraged them to compete with the spirit of sportsmanship, friendship and camaraderie. Learn to win with humility, learn to accept your losses, learn to grow from them and most importantly learn to be discipline he added. The District Sports Officer, South West Khasi Hills District, Mawkyrwat, Shri. D. Syngkon unfurled the flag to signal the opening of the Athletic meet. It may also be mentioned that the athletes are categorized into three age groups, U-14, U-16, and U-18 for both boys and girls. The track and field events comprises of 60 metres, 100 meters, 200 meters, 300 metres, 400 meters, 600 metres, 800 metres, 1500 metres, 2000 metres, 3000 metres, Medley Relay races, long jump, high jump, shot put, discuss throw, Javelin throw and Hexathlon (Six events- 100 Metre, Long Jump, Shot Put, High Jump, Javelin Throw & 1000 Metres). Others who were present in the opening ceremony of the event include invitees, presidents, secretaries and members of the Sporting Associations as well as principals, teachers, and students from different schools. |
