FIFTH ECONOMIC CENSUS 2005 IN RI BHOI

For the smooth operation of the Fifth Economic Census in Ri Bhoi District, a meeting was held on March 17, 2005 at the office chamber of the Deputy Commissioner who is also the Chairman, District Level Steering Committee of the Fifth Economic Census Ri Bhoi District. During the meeting, it was decided that Primary School Teachers and local educated unemployed youth will be appointed as Enumerators and will be paid Rs. 375/- as honorarium per Enumeration Unit comprising of 120 households. The Supervisory works would be entrusted to Extension Officer, Sub-Inspectors of Statistics, Secondary School Teachers and Junior Engineers attached to Block Development Officers. They would be paid Rs. 575/- as honorarium per Supervisory Unit comprising of six Enumeration Units.

The meeting also decided to hold District Level Training for Supervisors and Enumerators on April 7, 2005 at 10:00 A.M. at Science Hall, Nongpoh, while Block Level Trainings for Umling C & RD Block, Jirang C & RD Block and Umsning C & RD Block will be held on April 11, 12 and 13, 2005 respectively.

NORTH EAST SUPER CROSS CHALLENGE 2005 CONCLUDED

The North East Super Cross Challenge, 2005 concluded recently at the Speedway Park, Laitkor, Shillong. Organized by the Motor Sports Club of Meghalaya in collaboration with the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Shillong and jointly co-sponsored by Bajrang Steels (Sales) Corporation and Meghalaya Iron & Steel Company, the event saw the participation of a number of motorcyclists from across the State.

Awards which included cash prizes and certificates were given away to the winners of different categories. In the Expert Class, Larry Mukhim, Baljeet Tedwal and Willfred Pyngrope bagged the 1st, 2nd and 3rd position respectively, while in the Novice Class, the 1st position goes to Brandon Dkhar, 2nd position to Kordor Shadap and the 3rd position was bagged by Altaf and Ronald Nongrum.

I&PR MINISTER INAUGURATES CHILDREN’S FILM FESTIVAL

Meghalaya Minister for Information & Public Relations, Mr. H D R Lyngdoh today inaugurated the Children’s Film Festival 2005 at Anjalee Cinema Hall, Shillong. The four day Film festival is being organized by the Directorate of Information & Public Relations, Government of Meghalaya in collaboration with the Children’s Film Society of India (CFSI), Mumbai.

In his inaugural speech as the Chief Guest, Mr. Lyngdoh lauded the effort of the I & P R Department and the Children’s Film Society of India for their initiatives in organizing such a meaningful programme for the students of different Districts in the State. Lamenting over the fact that the entertainment scenario today is marred by violence or unsuitable language for the young children, Mr. Lyngdoh expressed hope that the morals and values interwoven in the films would be imbibed by the young minds.

Commissioner & Secretary, Education Department, Mr. L Roy who was present on the occasion as the Guest of Honour also lauded the venture of the I & P R Department and the Children’s Film Society of India for coming up with the innovative idea of providing wholesome entertainment for school children.

The Secretary I & PR Department, Ms. H K Marak in her speech expressed hope that this festival will give satisfaction to the school children and at the same time provide them with the opportunity to relax and take some time out from their busy and often demanding school activities.

The Chief Executive Officer, Children’s Film Society of India, Mr. S Pandakar informed the gathering that the Film Festival which includes the screening of English and Hindi film, is simultaneously being held Jaintia Hills and Ri Bhoi Districts East beside East Khasi Hills. Furthermore a similar will also be held in Assam from the 20th of this month.

As a mark declaring the Festival open, Mr H D R Lyngdoh lit the inaugural lamp. The inaugural function was chaired by the Director of Information & Public Relations, Government of Meghalaya, Mr. A. Mawlong, while Mr. R Nongkhlaw, Public Relations Officer, Directorate of Information & Public Relations, offered the vote of thanks.

It may be mentioned that the Children’s Film Festival will see the screening of films in all the cinema halls of Shillong, Byrnihat, Jowai and Lad Rymbai at 9.15 AM everyday from April 5 to April 8, 2005. Admission for the school children is free of cost.

DC WEST KHASI HILLS TO CONVENED MEETING ON TOLL GATES

The Deputy Commissioner, West Khasi Hills District, Nongstoin has convened a meeting on April 14, 2005 at Trysem Hall, Deputy Commissioner Office, West Khasi Hills regarding the Check Gates and Toll Gates problem of the district.

All Syiem under West Khasi Hills, official of the PWD, Police Department, Chief Executive Member, Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council, the secretary of JACCO, Shillong and the president of the Meghalaya Commercial Truck Owners and Operators Association to attend the said meeting.

It may be mentioned that the District Magistrate West Khasi Hills, Nongstoin has promulgated order under section 144 CrPC prohibiting certain organisations/persons to forcibly dismantle the toll gate and threatening the local Syiem/Sordar in the whole districts.
