Press Release No. 182/13 NOTIFICATION Shillong, April 5, 2013: The Home (Police) Department, Government of Meghalaya, in its notification issued on March 22, 2013, has approved and sanctioned a new Police Out Post at Sohiong in East Khasi Hills District to be known as the Sohiong Police Out Post. The Out Post is bounded by Nongkhlaw Syiemship in the North, Mylliem Syiemship in the East, Pamsanngut Sirdarship in the South and Nongspung Syiemship in the West. On creation of the Sohiong Police Out Post, the areas coming under its jurisdiction shall ceased to be under the Mawngap Police Out Post. |
Press Release No. 183/13 LEGAL LITERACY CAMPAIGN HELD AT DAMAS Shillong, April 5, 2013: A Legal Literacy-cum-Awareness Campaign was organized by North Garo Hills District Administration in collaboration with the Meghalaya State Legal Services Authorty (MSLSA) Shillong at Damas Secondary School premises on Thursday. Hundreds of people including the students participated in the day-long programme which is aimed at educating the people about the legal implications in their day-to-day lives. Additional District Magistrate, North Garo Hills, Mr. L. Ch. Marak, who was the main resource person for the programme, deliberated on the various legal services available, like Maintenance Case for Wives/Women, Right to Education Act, Child Labour, Juvenile Justice System and Bail matters. He informed the gathering that it is the binding duty of the parents to ensure that their children aged between 6-14 years of age attend school failing which they would be taken to task by law. He also responded to the queries raised by the participants during the programme regarding eligibility for maintenance claims, bail to be sought in juvenile cases and the degree of freedom that is given to juveniles under detention in juvenile homes. He also stressed on the need for an FIR (First Information Report) to be lodged at the nearest Police Outpost without which no case could be registered in the court. He also informed the gathering that a case could continue even after bail has been granted till the case has been disposed of by the concerned Magistrate. Medical Officer, North Garo Hills, Dr. John Sangma, spoke about women in need of care and protection and educated the public on the importance of health education for women especially young girls. Lady Supervisor, ICDS, North Garo Hills, B.K. Sangma, while participating in the programme, gave a talk on the special care to be taken by expectant mothers by means of regular check-up and timely immunization which will lead to the birth of a healthy newborn. She also spoke about Balika Mandal Scheme which is being implemented through her office and also stressed on the responsibility of the parents to guide their children in the right path so that they can contribute positively to society. |
Press Release No. 184/13 ROAD INAUGURATED IN RONGCHIGRE Shillong, April 5, 2013: North Tura MLA and Parliamentary Secretary Mr. Noverfield R Marak inaugurated the black topping of rural road from NH 51 to Rongchigre village under Rongram C and RD Block. The one kilometer stretch of black topped road was constructed under the Black Topping of Rural Road Scheme (BTRRS). Addressing the gathering Mr. Marak spoke on the various livelihood generating schemes initiated by the government and laid special emphasis on the governments flagship programme the Integrated Basin Development and Livelihood Programme (IBDLP). He also spoke on the need for cooperation between the people and the government for sustainable development in the region and urged the gathering to avail the various schemes that have been launched by the government to uplift livelihood opportunities of the people of the state. Mr. Marak later urged parents to instill civic sense in their children so that they grow up to be outstanding citizens. Among others who spoke at the occasion were Rongram Block Development Officer, Mr. P R Marak, Tura Congress Committee President Selma D Shira, local leaders G N Arengh and D N Sangma among others. |
Press Release No. 185/13 DCC MEETING HELD IN NORTH GARO HILLS Shillong, April 5, 2013: The Deputy Commissioner, North Garo Hills, Mr. W. Khyllep has urged the district officers to come up with innovative plans for their respective departments to accelerate growth in the district. The Deputy Commissioner was addressing the district heads of offices during the District Coordination Committee (DCC) meeting in his office chamber on April 3, 2013. He said that the district should have a growth rate of 12 to 15 percent in order to catch up with the rest of the country and to achieve this, the district officials must come up with creative and innovative schemes, he added. Stating that easy road communication is a must for development, Mr. Khyllep stressed on the need to make all roads motorable. He also asked the PWD (Roads) to look for possibilities to create new roads which can be constructed cycle by cycle. The Deputy Commissioner urged upon the PWD Buildings Division to take necessary steps for renovation of all existing government buildings and also to move the government for necessary sanction for construction of DCs complex and quarters. He also asked all officers concerned to take up with their respective higher authorities for upgradation of their offices to a district level. Pointing out that some shops and business establishments in the district were still putting up signboards bearing the name of East Garo Hills even long after the inauguration of the district, Mr. Khyllep urged the officials concerned to ensure that all shops, offices and institutions change their signboards and write North Garo Hills instead. He also insisted that all DDOs, who were still drawing their bills from Willamnagar Treasury Office, must draw the bills from Resubelpara Treasury from April onwards. All heads of offices were also asked to prepare Disaster Management Plan for their respective offices and also to take necessary steps to ensure safety of their buildings. On the issue of water scarcity, the meeting was informed by the PHE that the main cause of water shortage was the drying up of catchment area and in this connection the meeting decided to form water management committee with the Deputy Commissioner as the Chairman to work out the solutions to the problem. The committee would meet on April 16 next to discuss and chalk out the strategies to prevent water crisis. Security issues also came up during the meeting and any officers facing security threats in any form were asked to speak to or confide with the Superintendent of Police, Resubelpara. |
