APPOINTMENT OF CO-CHAIRMAN AND VICE-CHAIRMAN SDRC

The Government of Meghalaya has appointed Mr. P T Sawkmie, Ex-MLA as Co-Chairman and Mr. D R Nongkynrih as Vice-Chairman of the Meghalaya State Development Reforms Commission (SDRC) with effect the date of assumption of charge and until further orders with entitlement of facilities applicable to a Co-Chairman in category ‘A’ and ‘B’ respectively.

This was informed by the Commissioner & Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Programme Implementation & Evaluation Department.

UNION MINISTER VISITS SHAHLANG

The Union Minister for Tribal Affairs, Mr. P R Kyndiah visited Shahlang in West Khasi Hills District on April 5, 2008 to get first hand knowledge on the developmental activities taking place in the area. The Union Minister was accompanied by the MLA of Mawthengkut, Mr. Francis Pondit Sangma, MDC, Mr. S Rashir and others.

Speaking at a public meeting held at Shahlang playground, Mr. Kyndiah underlined the need to plan for the future generation by taking education as an important aspect for elevating the standard of living. Referring to the memorandums submitted, the Union Minister assured all possible help on priority basis. With regard to road connectivity, Mr. Kyndiah said that he will take up the matter with the National Highway Authority of India to speed up the process of the Shillong-Nongstoin-Tura road project and with regard to the road from Malangona to Shahlang, Bandapara to Shahlang and Maheshchola, he stated that he would be taking up the matter with authorities concerned.

Stating that Market okays an important role ins social and economic life of the people, the Union Minister underscored tat Shalang market must be strengthened and improved so as to uplift the economy o the people.
