Press Release No. 138/10 SENSITIZATION WORKSHOP ON CLUSTER DEVELOPMENT HELD AT TURA Shillong, April 7, 2010: A sensitization workshop on Cluster Development organised by the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE), Guwahati under the Ministry of MSME, Government of India was held today the 7th April 2010 at the Circuit House, Tura. The workshop was a convergence of District Officials chalking out the best ways to go about in promoting cluster development in the region. The Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills, Shri. Sanjay Goyal graced the workshop as the Chief Guest while Smt. F.C.A. Sangma, Additional Deputy Commissioner cum project Director, DRDA, West Garo Hills chaired the Wrokshop. Delegates from IIE comprising of Shri. K. Ahmed, Director, IIE, Dr. Sriparna B. Boruah, Head, Center for Industrial Extension, IIE, Shri. Hemanta Rabha, Research Executive, IIE, besides others deliberated on the importance of Cluster Development to attain higher levels of inductrial development in the region. Speaking in the occasion, Shri. K. Ahmed stated in brief the IIE’s aspirations towards promoting clusters development in the entire northeast region. He stated that the IIE keeping the inherent strength and resilience of the MSME sector under consideration had ventured into Cluster Development in the year 2005, with the cane and bamboo cluster in Dimapur besides providing technical support to thirteen handloom and handicraft clusters. Shri. Sanjay Goyal in his address said that even if the region was exceptionally abundant in natural resources something was keeping the region from forming its own MSME clusters. He further said that even if industrious activities were taken by NGOs, SHGs and many more the returns were less which was discouraging further industrious activities. Therefore he stated that it is imperative to take steps towards cluster development to boost the economy in the region. |
