Press Release No. 176/19 FINAL MEET WITH POLL TEAMS With just three days away for the Lok Sabha elections to the 2 – Tura (ST) Parliamentary Constituency, the District Election Officer, North Garo Hills held a final meet with the Police and Civil Sector officers of the district on Monday where they were emphasized of their roles and responsibilities expected to be executed by them on the poll day. Repeated meetings on ethical voting, training on the usage of EVM, VVPAT were called for the sector officers and the polling staffs prior to the voting day only to ensure that the election is being held in a fair and smooth manner. Making Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) inclusive in this upcoming election, a special awareness drive on election mechanisms was also imparted to them, apprised the DEO. As the voting day is slated to be held on April 11, the DEO informed that out of the total 171 polling stations, 152 polling personnel assigned to far flung areas have been assorted to make their move towards their respective polling stations on April 9 and 19 polling teams to follow suit on the day after. It was also informed that as part of precautionary measure to cut off any election hitch, 28 additional CUs, BUs, EVMs would be dispensed for every polling teams. To ensure that the election happens undisturbed, SP Dr S.R.Marak enlightened that police personnel from adjoining states including the SI Cadets from NEPA, Shillong have been deployed in the district. He also advocated that they have cordial relationship with their fellow civil sectors and move together for area familiarization. |
Press Release No. 177/19 NDRF TO CONDUCT HOSPITAL MOCK DRILL AT WILLIAMNAGAR ON 23 APRIL The Guwahati based 1st Battalion of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) will be conducting a joint mock drill on “Earthquake Disaster” in collaboration with the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) at Williamnagar Civil Hospital on 23 April next. East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner and the Chairman of the DDMA, Shri. Swapnil Tembe, had given prior instruction to the hospital authorities to activate the Incidence Response Teams under the Incidence Response System. |
Press Release No. 178/19 WHEEL CHAIRS TO BE PROVIDED FOR PWDS ON POLLING DAY The District Election Officer, West Jaintia Hills has informed that Wheel Chairs will be provided to voters with disability on the polling day. Three (3) Wheel Chairs has been arranged for the PwDs at Madan Kynsaw B, Mulieh and Mawtyrshiah under Laskein PHC and at Thangrain A under Barato PHC. The District Election Officer has further urged the general public that if anybody needs Wheel chair on the polling may contact toll free No 1950 and those required may mention the details of the polling station and the name of the registered PwD, so as to enable the District Administration to arrange sufficient number of the same. |
Press Release No. 179/19 SWGH COMES UP WITH UNIQUE SYSTEM TO HELP POLL PERSONNEL The South West Garo Hills District Election machinery has come up with a unique and practical system to ease the tension of polling personnel in the upcoming polls to the 2-Tura Parliamentary constituency. The idea being incorporated during the material distribution and movement of polling personnel to their respective polling stations is the first of its kind in the State and has helped immensely in easing various snags confronted by polling parties while discharging their duties. Giant banners with details of polling parties and polling stations allotted along with contact numbers of polling personnel have been set up at the training centre as well as the material distribution centre. This arrangement has greatly reduced the overcrowding and other problems of polling personnel who earlier had to search for their names, duties allotted and polling stations with great difficulty. Now their names and other details are easily visible from quite a distance eliminating long queues and overcrowding. The idea has been greatly appreciated by the polling personnel. The setting up of multiple election material distribution counters colour coded with a specific colour for a specific constituency with the names of polling stations have also made it easy for polling parties to locate their respective counters. This unique idea has made it possible to complete the exercise in record time. The transport cell has also followed suit by colour coding vehicles allotted for polling stations so that the polling parties can easily located their respective vehicles. A colourful photo booth bearing various election logos and slogans was also set up near the distribution centre in the Deputy Commissioner’s office complex, Ampati. Meanwhile, six emergency medical teams have been constituted for any emergency in the polling stations. The emergency medical team will respond to the needs of the polling personnel as well as the voters. The emergency medical teams will be stationed in the identified police stations and out posts of the three assembly segments in the district. |
Press Release No. 180/19 POLL INFORMATION The District Election Officer,South West Khasi Hills District informed the general public that sharing, spreading comments, posts or messages of communal nature and contents inciting hatred amongst public using any type of medium including Social media is not only prohibited but punishable under appropriate sections of I.P.C and I.T Act and therefore all are requested to refrain from committing such actions in order to facilitate free and fair election and for maintenance of peace, communal harmony and normal Law and Order situation in the region. |
