SPECIAL INTERACTIVE PROGRAMME HELD AT MAWRONG

The office of the District Public Relations Officer, Nongpoh held a one day Special Interactive Programme (SIP) on April 10, 2007 in the premises of the Government Upper Primary School, Mawrong. The programme was attended by headmen, students and teachers from eight villages. The Chief Guest on the occasion was Mr. N. A K. Syiem, EAC.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Syiem lauded the initiative of the District Public Relations Officer and the participating Departments for providing a platform for the people as well as officers to highlight the activities, project and schemes that are available with the Government, which people can take advantage of. Urging upon the participants to disseminate information leaned in the workshop to others, Mr. Syiem also called upon the students to imbibe as much information as possible through the workshop.

The resource persons for the workshop included, Mr. W. H. Pakyntein, Assistant Agronomist, Mrs. P. Kharumnuid, Assistant Registrar, Cooperative Society, Miss. P. Lymba Assistant Project Officer, Disaster Risk Management, Mr. T. Lyngdoh, District Sericulture Officer, Mr. N.S. Nongrem, Extension Officer, KHADC, Mr. T. Nongkseh, Private Poultry promoter and Mr. B. Rani, President RAWA. A paper on Right to Information act was presented by the District Public Relations Officer, Nongpoh.

SPEED LIMIT FIXED

The Commissioner and Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Transport Department has informed that speed limit has been fixed for motor vehicles. In case of vehicles where all the wheels are fitted with pneumatic tyres and the vehicles is not drawing a trailer and if the vehicles is a light motor vehicle other than a transport vehicle, the maximum speed on open stretches is 80 Km/hr, 30 km/hr in towns and village and 20 Km/hr near hospitals or schools: if the vehicle is a light motor vehicle and a transport vehicle, the maximum speed on open stretches is 65 Km/hr, 30 km/hr in towns and village and 20 Km/hr near hospitals or schools: if the vehicle is a motor cycles the maximum speed on open stretches is 50 Km/hr, 30 km/hr in towns and village and 20 Km/hr near hospitals or schools: if the vehicle is medium or heavy passenger motor vehicle, the maximum speed on open stretches is 60 Km/hr, 30 km/hr in towns and village and 20 Km/hr near hospitals or schools: if the vehicle is a medium or heavy good vehicle, the maximum speed on open stretches is 60 Km/hr, 30 km/hr in towns and village and 20 Km/hr near hospitals or schools.

In case of articulated vehicles, where all the wheels are fitted with pneumatic tyres, which is a heavy goods vehicle or heavy passenger motor vehicle the maximum speed on open stretches is 50 Km/hr, 30 km/hr in towns and village and 20 Km/hr near hospitals or schools.

In case of vehicles drawing not more than one trailer or in the case of artillery equipments not more than two trailers and the wheels of which are fitted with pneumatic tyres and if the vehicle is light motor vehicle and the trailer being two wheeled has gross vehicle weight not exceeding 800 kilograms, the maximum speed on open stretches is 60 Km/hr, 30 km/hr in towns and village and 20 Km/hr near hospitals or schools: If the vehicle is a light motor vehicle and the trailer has more than two wheels or a gross vehicle weight exceeding 800 kilograms, the maximum speed on open stretches is 50 Km/hr, 30 km/hr in towns and village and 20 Km/hr near hospitals or schools: if the vehicle is a medium goods or medium passenger motor vehicles, the maximum speed on open stretches is 50 Km/hr, 30 km/hr in towns and village and 20 Km/hr near hospitals or schools: if the vehicle is a heavy goods vehicle or a heavy passenger motor vehicle, the maximum speed on open stretches is 40 Km/hr, 30 km/hr in towns and village and 20 Km/hr near hospitals or schools and if the vehicle is a heavy goods vehicle or heavy passenger motor vehicles used by the fire brigade, the maximum speed on open stretches is 50 Km/hr, 30 km/hr in towns and village and 20 Km/hr near hospitals or schools.

In cases not covered by the above entries the maximum speed on open stretches is 30 Km/hr, 25 km/hr in towns and village and 20 Km/hr near hospitals or schools.

MOVING OF VEHCILES STOPPED DUE TO DAMAGED BRIDGE

The Executive Engineer, PWD (Roads), Jowai Division, Jowai, has informed that the old existing timber bridge no. 215/1 at Treiongriang on the Dawki -Amlarem -Jowai Road, NH40 Extension has been damaged. Therefore, movement of heavy vehicles will be stopped until further orders.

PERMANENT EPIC CENTRES SET UP

The District Election Officer, Jaintia Hills District has notified for general information that a Permanent EPIC Centre has been set up in the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Election Branch, Jowai and in the office of the Sub-Divisional Officers, Civil Sub-Divisions Amlarem and Khliehriat with immediate effect. These centres will function on all working days during office hours.

Any registered voter of the Assembly Constituencies of the District who have not yet photographed themselves during the De Novo Epic programme should get themselves photographed in the aforesaid Permanent EPIC Centres.

It is also informed that for voters who are working/studying outside the District/State, immediate family member may personally furnish recent clear photographs either to the Election Office, Jowai, or they may send their recent photograph via email addressed to ceomeghalaya@yahoo.co.in or jowai@nic.in or dc-jh-meg@nic.in.

STATE GOVERNMENT BID FAREWELL TO THE GOVERNOR

The Government of Meghalaya today give the formal farewell to His Excellency the Governor of Meghalaya, Shri M. M. Jacob at Soso Tham Auditorium, Shillong.

The function was chaired by the State Chief Secretary Shri R. Chatterjee and attended by the Meghalaya Chief Minister, Dr. D. D. Lapang, Deputy Chief Ministers, Dr. Donkupar Roy, Dr. Mukul Sangma, Padmashree Smti Queenie Rynjah, Prof. B. Dutta Ray and other high dignitaries including senior officials of the State Government, officials of the Armed Forces and the student drawn from various schools of Shillong.

Speaking on the occasion Dr. D. D. Lapang recollects the services rendered by Mr. Jacob in different capacities in the past, he said that his vast experience both in the political and administrative levels, has contributed enormously toward the overall development of the State. He said that his 12 years as Governor of the State, he has cited great examples to the political leaders of the state and also the administrators who have gained from the foot step set by him to bring stability and development in the state which Dr. Lapang expresses confidence that the nation will utilize his experienced service at the higher level.

Dr. Lapang stated that he is very much impressed by the statement made by Mr. Jacob when he said, “I don’t know what will happen but we leave in the hands of God” which the Chief Minister felt that these words remained as a message of encouragement to him in particular while performing his duties. Dr. Lapang also prayed that God will strengthen his faith, his heart and his will to serve.

Mr. Jacob while speaking on the occasion expressed his happiness that even in the last day of his tenure as Governor, the people of Meghalaya still show their faith and confidence on him. As the Governor of Meghalaya he said that his main motive is to create a conducive atmosphere where people can live together, love one another and work for the future prosperity of the State. He also mentioned that during his tenure he has never face any problem of working together with any of the governments and expressed his happiness that he obtained maximum cooperation from all people of the state.

The Governor also appreciated that Democracy in Meghalaya is a successful democracy because it lies in different layers right form the village Dorbar, District Council and the State Legislature where the people has been imbibed with the democratic spirit.

Other who spoke on the occasion includes Deputy Chief Ministers Dr. Donkupar Roy, Dr. Mukul Sangma, Padmashree Smti Queenie Rynjah and Prof Dr. B. Datta Ray.
