Shillong, April 12, 2013: All State Government offices and all Revenue and Magisterial Courts and Educational Institutions in East Khasi Hills District shall remain closed on April 15, 2013 on account of Shad Suk Mynsiem.

MID-DAY MEAL RICE RELEASED

Shillong, April 12, 2013: The Deputy Commissioner (Supply) West Jaintia Hills District, Jowai has informed that the Midday Meal Rice for L.P Schools and U.P Schools under the Mid- Day Meal Scheme Rice for the month of January, February and March, 2013 has been released through their respective Fair Price Shop Dealers for Jowai Sadar and will be delivered free of cost to the schools by selected fair price shop dealers.

Scale of issue is 3.32 kgs per students for L.P Schools and 8.26 Kgs per students for U.P. Necessary permit will be delivered up to 31.05.2013.

GRATUITOUS RELIEF RELEASED

Shillong, April 12, 2013: The Deputy Commissioner, West Jaintia Hills District, Jowai has informed that an amount of Rs.9, 000/-(Rupees nine thousand) only has been released to the family affected by fire incident during the year 2013 under Thadlaskein Block Development, West Jaintia Hills District.

26TH CONVOCATION OF IGNOU HELD

Shillong, April 12, 2013: The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) held its 26th Convocation today, the 12th April, 2013 wherein the President of India, Shri. Pranab Mukherjee delivered the Convocation address at the Convention Centre IGNOU Headqarters at Maidan Garhi, New Delhi while the Union Minister of State, Human Resources Development, Shri. Jatin Prasada was the Guest of Honour. The Convocation was simultaneously held at all the 48 Regional Centres through teleconferencing mode.

In the Regional Centre, Shillong, the Meghalaya Governor, Shri. R S Mooshahary graced the convocation as the Guest of Honour at Don Bosco Youth Centre, Laitumkhrah, Shillong.

In this 26th Convocation, 158387 students all over India including 196 from the Regional Centre, Shillong, received their Degree/Diploma and Certificates. The Regional Centre, Shillong also takes pride in producing a University Gold Medalist in Post Graduate Diploma in Folklore & Cultural Studies, Mr. Somingam Mawon.

Delivering his words of wisdom, Mr. Mooshahary said that convocation is an important milestone in the academic activities of the University, be it conventional or the open and distance mode of education. He said that IGNOU has achieved what other universities could not, that is instilling in students the principle of self discipline, self education and self confidence. He urged upon the graduates to view the skills and training that they received in the University in the perspective of what they feel their role should be.

Lauding the IGNOU of playing a leading role in redefining education, the Governor urged upon the university to offer more high quality innovative and need-based programmes at different levels, especially to the disadvantaged segments of society at affordable cost.

Later, the Governor distributed Degree and Diploma certificates to the successful students.
