DUL DOKA VOTING AWARENESS PROGRAMME HELD IN RESUBELPARA

In a series of voting awareness programmes being held throughout the State, the “Dul Doka” was also held at Dekachang Market in Resubelpara, North Garo Hills today.

The programme was organized by the CEO Meghalaya as part of the Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) campaign in tandem with District Administration, North Garo Hills and A.chik Theatre Tura.

As was practiced in the ancient days beating the ‘Dul’ or the drum in order to gather attention of the public to disseminate certain important announcement, the same was enacted today whereby the artists calling out the people particularly the eligible voters to cast their vote in the upcoming General Election to the Lok sabha 2024 on April 19.

North Garo Hills’ Additional Deputy Commissioner, Leena Daring addressing the gathering as the chief guest lauded the CEO, Meghalaya for organizing the campaign with a blend of traditional methods for informing the public on the importance of elections. In her speech she informed of the election related activities being undertaken in the district such as the home voting facilities for the 85 years and above and people with disabilities and urged upon all eligible voters to act responsibly fulfilling their responsibility towards the country by exercising their voting right on the voting day.

She also apprised the gathering that any first male and female voters who turn out on the voting day would be felicitated with tree saplings that would be planted in the respective polling stations. She added that it was an initiative to mitigate the impact of climate change.

Assistant Commissioner, Liam Tesat  Momin, in his speech highlighted the gathering on ethical voting and called upon all voters to exercise their right to vote with responsibility.

District SVEEP Icon A’we Pedallers representative Changrik Sangma were among others who emphasized the gathering on the importance of voting. As part of the programme, Footballs were distributed to various football clubs of the district as well as the general public.

SWGH DC AND DEO CONVENES FINAL COORDINATION MEETING BEFORE POLL AT AMPATI

With barely three days left for the General Election to Lok Sabha 2024, South West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner & District Election Officer, Hema Nayak on Tuesday evening convened the final Coordination meeting with all the Nodal Officers of various cells, Zonal Magistrates, Zonal Police Officers, Sector Officers and Police Sector Officers at the DRDA conference hall to ensure smooth and glitch-free conduct of the polling process.

Chairing the meeting, the DC and DEO Hema Nayak gave a briefing on the material dispatch and movement plan, receiving plan, 72 hours SOP and other election related matters. Stating that the co-ordination between Civil Sector and Police Sector officer is of utmost importance for smooth and successful conduct of polls, she made them familiarise with each other and also asked the Sector Officers to keep themselves well familiarised with their respective sectors. They were also asked to coordinate with the BLOs as they know all the voters of their respective polling stations.

She also allayed the certain concerns of the sector officers saying that everything is being followed as per ECI guidelines.

South West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police, Vikash Kumar also addressed meeting and highlighted on maintenance of law & order during the time of election process. He asked the Sector Officers that if any problem came up during the polling to inform the District Police for immediate action.

Communication plan, traffic arrangement, webcasting, etc were also discussed during the meeting.
