Press Release No. 72/23 NCW MEMBER VISITS SWGH, INSPECTS OSC, GIRLS HOME Member of National Commission for Women (NCW), New Delhi, Ms. Delina Khongdup visited South West Garo Hills district and inspected the functioning of One Stop Centre (OSC), Swadhar Greha (Girls Home) and Shelter Homes at Ampati in the presence of the Deputy Commissioner R. P. Marak, ADC, P. K. Sangma, Addl. SP, T.D.Sangma, AC and BDO Betasing C.R.N.Sangma, DSWO Z. R. Marak and officials of OSC and Girls Home on Wednesday. The NCW Member inspected the site of the OSC building under construction at Chengkompara which is yet to be completed due to delay in fund release for second installment and assured that she would take up the matter with the Ministry for speeding up the construction. Presently the OSC is functioning from the DRDA building which also houses several other offices and hence there's very little privacy for the inmates of the Centre. Ms.Khongdup also had lengthy interaction with OSC officials including the Centre Manager Sengera R. M. Marak, Para Legal Cara R. Sangma and Counsellor, Rajini Marak as well as the officials of Girls Home. She reviewed the nature of cases registered there and expressed her satisfaction with the functioning and maintenance of records at the Centre. She also urged the officials to further spread awareness to the women in remote areas of the district about OSC and how women in distress can avail support and protection at the Centre. The NCW Member is taking her field visits to the districts very seriously as she feels that women and child issues are of prime importance and said that the Ministry is giving special focus to these issues in the districts along the international border. |
Press Release No. 73/23 MEGHALAYA GOVERNOR PAYS VISIT TO LAND PORTS AUTHORITY OF INDIA, DAWKI The Governor of Meghalaya, Shri Phagu Chauhan, today visited Dawki in West Jaintia Hills. As part of the tour, he visited the recently inaugurated Land Port Authority of India (LPAI) office and Integrated Check Post (ICP), Dawki and held a meeting with the officials of various Central Agencies like Land Port Authority of India (LPAI) , BSF, Customs and officials of District Administration including Superintendent of Police, PD-DRDA, SDO (Civil) of Amlarem and Pynursla Civil Sub Divisions and local representatives, headmen of nearby villages. During the meeting, the Governor was briefed about the various aspects of Integrated Check Post at Dawki, the role and responsibilities of Customs and Central Excise Department and implementation of various C.S.S including PMAY, MGNRERS, SSA, PM-POSHAN, National Health Mission, PMGSY, etc by the different Departments. The Superintendent of Police, West Jaintia Hills also apprised him about law and order situation in the area. As part of his outreach, the Governor also interacted with headmen of local villages and enquired about their hardships and current development works in their respective areas. The local headmen and other officials informed the Governor about poor mobile network coverage in border areas and also requested for getting the Shillong-Dawki Road project expedited. He also had a detail discussion on issues relevant to the development of the Dawki area and instructed the officials to focus on the overall betterment of the people. Furthermore, in order to further strengthen the Indo- Bangladesh relationship the Governor visited the Indo- Bangladesh Maitri Dwar at Tamabil Border Check Post and interacted with the officials of Bangladesh Border Guards, where he offered them sweet packets as a gesture of goodwill. Later, the Governor visited the Border Out Post (BOP) of the 4 th Battalion Border Security Force (BSF) at Dawki, where he was briefed by Shri Pradeep Kumar, IPS, Inspector General of BSF HQ Shillong Frontier on the security measures undertaken by the BSF in the region. During his visit, he also visited the famous Umngot River, which is a prominent tourist attraction of the state. The Governor was accompanied by the Commissioner and Secretary, Dr B. D. R. Tiwari, IAS and other officials. |
