Press Release No. 290/07 CM INAUGURATES C.I.P.A. PROJECT Meghalaya Chief Minister, Dr D D Lapang today inaugurated the Common Integrated Police Application Project (CIPA) of the Meghalaya Police Department in the presence of the Adviser to the Chief Minister, Mr Friday Lyngdoh, Director General of Police, Mr B K Dey Sawian and other senior police officials at the Sardar police station, Shillong. The CIPA project is a cogent step towards computerization of Police Stations working in Meghalaya. This application is meant to reduce manual records and eliminate duplication and inconsistency in record keeping. It would instantly make available digitized data pertaining to all aspects of policing to officers at various levels and ensure better follow up and ensure reposition of faith among the general public on police services. The software for the project was developed by National Informatics Centre, New Delhi for planned induction of IT towards better and efficient management of public order, crime and criminal activities in all States and Union Territories. The software has been customized as per the requirements of the State. Dr Lapang in his inaugural speech expresses his happiness that Meghalaya Police has taken the lead in implementation of the CIPA project. He said that the police personnel have also been trained in operation of the CIPA. He informed that seven police stations in and around Shillong are being covered in the 1st Phase and subsequently all the police stations will be covered in the 2nd phase. Dr Lapang emphasized that communication technology are performance enhancer and its use is required to improve policing. He expresses confidence that the implementation of CIPA would make the Police Stations working more efficiently and effectively and would also improve Police service delivery including crime control, crime detection and maintenance of public order. He said the system would also improve accessibility, transparency and accountability in the functioning of the Police Department. While appreciating the Meghalaya Police of its high traditions of performance, integrity and efficiency, Dr Lapang said that the Police are expected to use the new tool of information and communication technology for their crusade against crime. He said that the police, who are the guardians of the law and protector of the general public, should work with full determination to root out crime and corruption from the State. Press Release No. 291/07 CM INAUGURATES THE XXVI NE CIRCLE CONFERENCE OF THE INCOME TAX EMPLOYEES FEDERATION Meghalaya Chief Minister, Dr D D Lapang today inaugurated the XXVI North East Circle Conference of the Income Tax Employees Federation held at the Soso Tham Auditorium, Shillong in the presence of the Commissioner of Income Tax, Mr H R Khan and the delegates of the Income Tax Department from different States of the North East. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Lapang said that in the present day context, the Income Tax department is no longer perceived as an enforcement agency but as a service organisation as any other organized sector. He said that the efforts of the officers and staff of the department have contributed enormously towards the steady rise in resource mobilization across the country. He said that the revenue generated by the department percolates down to all sections of the society including the people of the State of Meghalaya. Dr Lapang expresses his gratefulness to the employees of the Income Tax Department for their contributions towards the economic upliftment of the Society. He said that the service rendered by the workforce of the regional circle of the department is noteworthy. Dr Lapang said that he is confident that the conference will emerge resolutions designed to benefit the Income tax employees’ federation and the community as a whole. |
