ANTI-TERRORISM DAY OBSERVED

Meghalaya observed the Anti-terrorism Day today at the Main Secretariat Building premises, Shillong, where Meghalaya Home Minister, Shri H. D. R. Lyngdoh was the Chief Guest. The observance saw a huge participation from senior government officials and government employees. Speaking on the occasion, Shri H. D. R. Lyngdoh highlighted the significance of the day and said that it is important for the people to understand the menace that terror can create, and the uncertainties of the future generations through acts of terrorism. “Terrorism does not have any boundaries and it is not confined to one Nation or State,” he said, adding that the country as a whole and even Meghalaya has for the last five decades suffered a lot from terrorism and violence. The Minister stated that grievances cannot be solved by use of force and also stressed on the need for a sustained peace for progress and development of the State and urged upon the people to resolve to fight terrorism. Later, the Home Minister led the gathering comprising of senior state government officials and government employees in taking the pledge to oppose all forms of terrorism and to uphold and promote peace, social harmony and understanding among all fellow human beings and to fight the forces of disruption threatening human lives and values. It may be mentioned that 21st of May is the death anniversary of (L) Rajiv Gandhi, the former Prime Minister of India and it is observed as Anti-Terrorism Day across the country where the pledge is taken in all the government establishments and institutions to root out all forms of terrorism.

HEALTH MINISTER INAUGURATED NEW INITIATIVES AT BHOIRYMBONG CHC

Meghalaya Health Minister, Smti. Roshan Warjri today inaugurated the new initiatives implemented at the Bhoirymbong CHC, Ri Bhoi District in the presence of the local MLA, Shri. Ngaitlang Dhar, local MDC, Shri. Albinus Lyngdoh, Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi District, Shri. C P Gotmare. Also present were Chairperson of State Commission for Women, Smti. Theilin Phanbuh, Chairperson, State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Smti. Meena Kharkongor, senior medical officers, ASHAs, Headmen of villages under Bhoirymbong CHC. The facilities inaugurated included Fitness Gym, Children’s Park, Herbal Garden, Renovated IPD, Baby Corner, Laboratory and Casualty Room, which are being funded by the MHIS generated funds of the hospital. While dedicating the new initiatives to the public, the Health Minister said that these infrastructures are the outcome of the hard work and dedication of the medical officers and staff of the CHC who have rendered their selfless service for the welfare of the public. She also expressed her appreciation to the doctors and staff for taking the initiative to spread health awareness in the villages and to encourage the public to avail the medical services of the health department. She said that the community participation in all initiatives of the CHC has boosted the confidence of the officers and staff of the CHC to make every effort to achieve ‘health for all’. The Health Minister also informed that the Phase III of the Meghalaya Health Insurance Scheme will be rolled out soon and hoped that the coverage of this scheme will increase and called upon the public to take the opportunity and get themselves enrolled. Shri. Ngaitlang Dhar, in his speech, said that the Bhoirymbong and its adjoining villages are blessed to have dedicated and responsible doctors and staff in the CHC. He hoped that these new initiatives will cater to the health requirements of the area. Earlier during the programme, prizes were also distributed to the cleanest villages under Bhoirymbong CHC. This competition is based on the health and cleanliness activities of the villages, including vaccination coverage, institutional deliveries, immunization programmes, etc. The 1st prize were bagged by Khweng village and Liarsluid village, the 2nd and 3rd prize went to Umroi Madan and Mawtneng respectively. Umdohbyrthih, Umsawriang and Nongrah-B bagged the consolation prizes. Others who spoke on the occasion were local MDC, Shri. Albinus Lyngdoh and DC, Ri Bhoi, Shri. C P Gotmare.

NOMINATIONS FOR PADMA AWARDS 2018

The Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills, Shillong has informed the general public that the Padma Awards namely, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri will be announced on the occasion of Republic Day 2018. The awards seek to recognize ‘work of distinction’ and are given for distinguished and exceptional achievements/services in all fields of discipline such as Art, Literature and Education, Sports, Medicine, Social Work, Science and Engineering, Public Affairs, Civil Service, Trade & Industry etc. All persons without distinction of race, occupation, position or sex are eligible for these awards. Intending individuals from east Khasi Hills District who desire their names to be recommended to the Government for the award are requested to send their nominations to the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong on or before 14th August 2017. FOUNDATION STONE LAID FOR AMBROSE MEMORIAL SCHOOL AND BYNDIHATI SCHOOL

“School is very important for everyone, it is the source of development in every sphere of activities”, said Smti Deborah C. Marak, Meghalaya Minister for School Education and Literacy who attended the two separate functions for laying of foundation stones of school buildings for Ambrose Memorial School at Khliehriat and Byndihati Secondary School at Byndihati. Smti Deborah C. Marak lauded the school authorities and the Managing Committee for their great initiatives to ensure the smooth functioning of the school at the same time to avail development for the school. She also said the Government with all its effort is selecting Two Blocks in each District for availing financial assistance for construction of new school buildings. She also informed that the Ambrose Memorial School, Khliehriat is availing Rs. 1.68 Crores and the Byndihati Secondary School, Byndihati Rs. 1.75 Crores. She also said that both the financial assistance is sanctioned by the ASEAN Development Bank supporting Human Capital Development with the subject to improve education and to have a conducive environment. Smti Marak informed the public that through this project, more facilities will be given to the students and the teachers which will include new classrooms, computer classroom, separate toilets for boys and girls, teachers training room, digital class and smart class. She also hoped that with the new infrastructures, a better quality of education can be taken up so that student’s of these schools are competent with the rest of the state. Shri Justine Dkhar, local MLA and founding member of the Ambrose Memorial School, Khliehriat briefed about the history of the school. He said that the school was established in the year 2000 and upgraded to the Secondary level in 2006. Speaking on the occasion at Byndihati, he lauded the founding members who are the village elders for having a vision to build a school for their children thirty years ago in which the school stands as it is today. Shri M. S. Lhuid, Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District and Shri Ambrose Ch Marak, Director of School Education and Literacy also spoke on the occasion.
