Press Release No. 186/14 ORDER UNDER SECTION 144 CRPC Shillong, May 20, 2014: District Magistrate East Khasi Hills, Shillong has promulgated an order Under Section 144 Cr.P.C prohibiting devil worship or satan worship in any form, desecration of graves and vandalism of sacred symbols, movement of youth at cemeteries very late at night without any justification, defacing the walls with graffiti and gang fights and unauthorized bike races at night. This order has been imposed because it is felt that such practices may not only hurt the sentiments of the Christians and other religions across the district but if such activities if allowed to be continued it will create social unrest and inflame religious sentiments across the district resulting into danger to human life, health and safety and lead to disturbance of the public tranquility. This order comes into force with immediate effect and shall remain in force until further orders. |

Press Release No. 187/14 NOMINATION FOR PADMA AWARDS INVITED Shillong, May 20, 2014: Deputy Commissioner East Khasi Hills, District Shillong has informed that the Padma Awards, namely Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri will be announced on the occasion of the Republic Day 2015. The awards seek to recognize work of any distinction and are given for distinguished and exceptional achievements’/services in all fields of disciplines such as Art, Literature and Education, Sports, Medicine, Social Work, Science and Engineering, Public Affairs, Civil Service, Trade and Industry. All persons without any distinction of race, occupation, position or sex are eligible for these awards. Intending Individuals from East Khasi Hills District who desire their names to be recommended to the Government for the Award are requested to sent their nominations to the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District Shillong on or before the 31st August 2014.
