Press Release No. 251/13 STATE OBSERVES ANTI TERRORISM DAY Shillong, May 21, 2013: The Meghalaya Minister of GAD, etc., Mr. H D R Lyngdoh today administer the pledge to oppose all forms of terrorism and to promote peace and social harmony on the occasion of Anti-Terrorism Day at the premises of the Main Secretariat building, Shillong. The 21st May, which is the death anniversary of former Prime Minister of India (L) Rajiv Gandhi, is observed as Anti-terrorism Day across the nation and similar pledge is taken in all government establishments and institutions to root out all forms of terrorism. Addressing the gathering before taking the pledge, the Minister said that it is important for the people to understand the menace that terror can create and the uncertainties of the future generations through acts of terrorism. He said that terrorism does not have any boundaries and it is not confined to one nation or state, adding that the country as a whole and even the State of Meghalaya has suffered a lot due to terrorism and violence. North Eastern Region has its share of grievances where development is concern and this has encouraged terror groups to lure the people especially the youth to fight these grievances using undemocratic means. This, he said, has adversely affected trade and commerce and, above all, the common people He stated that grievances cannot be solved by use of force and stressed the need for sustained peace for progress and development of the State and urged upon the people to make a strong resolve to come together to fight terrorism. The Meghalaya Chief Secretary, Mr. W M S Pariat, who presided over the function, in his speech, said that the entire nation should observe this day with a sense of solidarity to oppose the attacks on democracy. He said that the country has unfortunately fall prey to terrorist attacks and it is high time that the citizens raise their voices against this threat to democracy. He said that in these past few years, the State has witnessed such problems and the government is taken appropriate steps to tackle this problem. Therefore, he called upon those present at the pledge taking ceremony to carry the message of peace, social harmony and understanding among fellow human beings and to fight the evil forces threatening human lives and values. Others present at the observation included the Additional Chief Secretary, Mr. P B O Warjri, Director General of Police, Prem Singh, Director of I & PR, Mr. H M Shangpliang, senior officials and government servants. |
Press Release No. 252/13 APPLICATION INVITED FOR ONE WEEK TRAINING COURSE Shillong, May 21, 2013: The National Institute of Technology Meghalaya in collaboration with the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Government of Meghalaya invites application for a one-week training course on Earthquake Resistant Building Construction Technology for Masons. The first batch will be on 10th-15th June, 2013 and second batch on 17th-22nd June, 2013. Stipend to the trainees will be given as per Government rates. Interested candidates may apply on standard form and submit to the Coordinator, Dr. C Marthong, Civil Engineering Department, NIT Meghalaya, Bijni Complex, Laitumkhrah, Shillong on or before the 3rd June, 2013. |
