MEETING HELD TO DISCUSS SECURITY MEASURES AT LAD RYMBAI

Shillong, May 24, 2010: With a view to discuss on the issue of safety and security of non-tribals residing in and around Lad Rymbai area in the wake of the Quit Notice issued by various NGOs and other various law and order problems, a meeting was held at Lad Rymbai Beat House / Khliehriat P.S. on May 24, 2010 with Lad Rymbai Durbar Pyllun, Mookhep Durbar, Elaka Sutnga and others with the district administration on law and order matters.

The meeting was presided by the Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil), Khliehriat in presence of the Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, Jaintia Hills District, Jowai and other members present.

After a threadbare discussion, it was felt that upgradation of Lad Rymbai Police Beat House into a Police Station is urgently required in view of the fact that Lad Rymbai is a centrally located commercial centre under Khliehriat Sub-Division and various incidents always took place in and around Lad Rymbai. The S.P, Jaintia Hills district has been requested to send the formal proposal to the Government. The meeting strongly objected to the Quit Notice issued by various NGOs and appeal to all NGOs to redress their demand through the knowledge and information of the local Durbar concerned. The meeting also decided to draw a joint patrolling duty by both police and V.D.P in their areas concerned and all volunteers authorized by the different localities should obtain an Identification Certificate from their I/C concerned. They are also authorized to handover any law breakers and culprits to the law enforcements in accordance with the provisions of law. The meeting requested the S.P, Jaintia Hills District to release or issue necessary materials to the V.D.P and to take up the matter with the home police department. It was also resolved to request the Govt. to deploy one full platoon of police Battalion at Lad Rymbai.

ROAD CLOSURE

Shillong, May 24, 2010: Due to incessant rainfall during the last three days, the road formation at 211/250 km culvert no 212/4 has been completely washed away by flash flood, resulting in the total closure of the road especially for the movement of vehicular traffic from Jowai towards Amlarem and Dawki and also vise versa. Restoration for the same is in progress and it might take five to six days to restore the traffic.
