Press Release No. 380/05 GYAN VANI FM STATION OF IGNOU TO BE INAUGURATED The Indira Gandhi National Open University’s (IGNOU) Gyan Vani FM Station Shillong will be inaugurated by the Union Minister for Human Resource Development, Mr. Arjun Singh on Sunday, May 29, 2005 at 3:30 P.M. To commemorate this historic event, the Meghalaya Chief Minister, Dr. D.D. Lapang will attend the ceremony to be held at the Administrative Staff College, Dispur, Guwahati as Guest of Honour while the Meghalaya Chairman of State Economic Development Council, Mr. R.G. Lyngdoh will be present as Chief Guest at a function to be held at IGNOU’s Shillong Regional Centre at Pohktieh. Doordarshan will telecast live the dedication ceremony and the 30-minute inaugural broadcast through its North East Channel, which will also be relayed by IGNOU’s own Gyan Darshan channel. Following its commissioning on May 29, 2005, Gyan Vani, Shillong will be the first independent FM radio station to operate in Meghalaya. It may be mentioned that IGNOU’s Shillong Regional Centre was set up in 1988 and was initially responsible for distance education in the entire North Eastern Region. It runs 70 programmes across curricula and has seen around 40,000 enrolments in the last 17 years. It has 30 Study Centres located in various colleges across the State and in the North Eastern Hill University, Shillong. |
Press Release No. 381/05 REVIEW MEETING OF SOHRA SUB-DIVISION HELD A review meeting of the Sohra Sub-Division (Civil) was held on May 26, 2005 at the Cherra Circuit House, Sohra. The aim of the meeting is to review the developmental programmes, schemes, achievements and activities implemented by various Departments during the last three years. The Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister, Dr. Donkupar Roy accompanied by the MDC of Sohra and Shella Bholaganj constituency along with officials from the Planning Department attended the meeting. The meeting, chaired by the Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil), Sohra Sub-Division, Mr. B.S. Sohliya and attended by all Sub-Divisional heads, discussed at length the various activities of Government Departments for the well being of the people at large. Dr. Roy, who noted the cause that hinders implementation of developmental programme, has assured to take up the matter with the State Government to sort out problems faced by various Departments. He also called upon all the Officers to see that Governmental schemes are being implemented properly and should take advantage of all the facilities offered for the over all development of the area. |
Press Release No. 382/05 RESTRICTION ON SALE OF PETROL IN LOOSE CONTAINERS The Deputy Commissioner (Supply), East Khasi Hills District, Shillong has directed all Petrol Pumps in the District not to sell Petrol/Motor Spirit to any vehicles using loose containers like bottles, jerry cans, drums, etc., but only in the fixed petrol tanks of the vehicle itself. Any person/Petrol Pumps found violating this order will be dealt with firmly as per law and licenses of the said pumps will be cancelled forthwith. |
Press Release No. 383/05 NGSSCC CONTRIBUTION TOWARDS PRIME MINISTER RELIEF FUND The Secretary New Generation Sports Socio & Cultural Club (NGSSCC), Jhalupara, Shillong has contributed a sum of Rs. 15,000/- towards the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund. The amount was handed over to the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong on May 26, 2005. |
Press Release No. 384/05 LEVY SUGAR DISTRIBUTED The Deputy Commissioner (Supply) East Khasi Hills District has informed that Levy Sugar for the month of May, 2005 has been released and is being distributed through the Fair Price Shop at the rate of Rs. 13.50 per kgs for 510 gms. per head/month. Any non-supply or overcharging of the rate by the Suppliers may be brought to the notice of the Deputy Commissioner (Supply) East Khasi Hills District with all the details. |
