ORIENTATION PROGRAMME ON INTEGRATED CHILD PROTECTION SCHEME CONCLUDES

Shillong, May 29, 2013: The two day orientation workshop for members of CWC, JJB, SJPU, Print & Electronic Media on Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS) culminated today at the Don Bosco Youth Centre, Shillong where the Inspector General, CID, Mr. V R Rana was the Chief Guest. Also present were the Assistant Director, Social Welfare and Fr. Celia, Director, Don Bosco Youth Centre.

It may be mentioned that the Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS) is a newly launched Centrally-sponsored scheme in collaboration with the State Government and Civil Society which aims to provide safe and secure environment for children and to set up a mechanism to strengthen child welfare system. The objective of the scheme is to build capacity and to coordinate a network between government and non government organizations to identify and assist, in whatever the case may be, for the welfare of the child.

In his valedictory speech, Mr. Rana said that from his experience as a police official, he had come across many cases of child rights violations. But in recent times, the most disturbing and dangerous trend in the State of Meghalaya is that children fall victim to rape and sexual abuse which is of great concern to the society as a whole. He expressed hoped that the workshop has been very constructive in curtailing this danger and also hoped that it has benefitted the Child Welfare Committees (CWCs), Juvenile Justice Board (JJB), Special Juvenile Police Unit (SJPU) and print and electronic media in their mission to safeguard and protect the children and their rights. He also informed the gathering that the police website is in place for the public to inform of any illegal activity and to lodge their complaints.

Later, certificates of participation were also distributed by the Chief Guest and Fr. Celia.

IX BIENNIAL STATE STUDENT NURSES ASSOCIATION (SNA) CONFERENCE INAUGURATES

Shillong, May 29, 2013: The IX Biennial State Student Nurses Association (SNA) Conference organized by Trained Nurses’ Association of India (TNAI), Meghalaya State Branch was inaugurated today by Mr. A. L. Hek, Minister of Health and Family Welfare at Woodland Nursing Institute, Laitkor, near Shillong.

The programme was attended by Dr. W. R. Kharshiing, Managing Director, Woodland Nursing Institute, Dr. A. G. Ahangar, Director, NEIGRIHMS, Ms. J. F. Balieh, President TNAI, Meghalaya State Branch, Ms. E. Pyngrope, State SNA Advisor and delegates of the State Student Nurses Association (SNA) and Trained Nurses’ Association of India (TNAI), Meghalaya State Branch.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Hek said that the theme of the conference “New Dimension in Nursing” is relevant for nursing care services to the sick and needy patients of the State both in urban and rural areas. He further said that the various dimensions such as comprehensive nursing care, nursing diagnosis, research, practice of nursing care at individual clinics with a touch of missionary zeal and humane approach is the key to good and satisfactory services. Stating that when acted upon with a touch of passion, coordination and cooperation of all stakeholders involved in the process, Mr. Hek opined that this will ensure smooth delivery of health care services to all concerned.

Mr. Hek also acknowledged the selfless sacrifices of nurses which according to him is the heart of healthcare services to the people.

While stating that development of social sectors like education and health provide the base for further economic development, Mr. Hek said that to improve the health indices statistics such as MMR and IMR, decisions have to be taken in a professional manner to achieve the objective for a dedicated, devoted nursing community to serve the people.

Mr. Hek expressed hope that the conference through the deliberation on different subjects including the scientific paper presentations will be of great help to the nurses fraternity.

It may be mentioned that the conference will also includes sports and games, and other activities for skill building and information-sharing among the nurses community.
