MINING ACTIVITY OR REMOVAL OF SAND FROM RIVER BEDS PROHIBITED

Shillong, May 29, 2014: The District Magistrate, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong has promulgated an order under Section 144 Cr PC prohibiting mining activity or removal of sand from river beds by any person, company, authority without obtaining clearance from MoEF/ SEIAA and license from competent authority in order to safeguard the environment from degradation. This is in pursuance of the order of National GREEN Tribunal, Principal Bench, New Delhi.

However, extraction of sand by the local community from the water harvesting structures constructed by the Soil and Water Conservation Department across the streams at Cherrapunjee is excluded from the purview of this order.

This order shall take immediate effect and will remain in force until further orders.

LPG HOME DELIVERY MANDATORY FROM 1ST JUNE, 2014

Shillong, May 29, 2014: The Deputy Commissioner (Supply), East Khasi Hills District Shillong has informed all Public consumers of Domestic LPG within Greater Shillong area that point delivery of LPG to the consumers in areas where it is operated is reverted back to Home Delivery to be effective from 1st June, 2014.

The price for Home Delivery is enhanced from Rs. 17.00 per LPG cylinder to Rs. 25.00 per LPG cylinder. Therefore, total price inclusive of Home Delivery for Ex-storage/ Godown Price is Rs. 446.00.

All Domestic LPG consumers are requested to take note that the above enhancement in price of home delivery is subject to the terms and conditions that delivery of domestic LPG by the Gas Agencies should be at doorstep level without any exception. Any overcharging of price should be brought to the notice of the Deputy Commissioner by giving full particulars.

The Government has also launched a portability scheme for cooking gas customers across the country on 22nd January 2014. This would be available for customers with any of the distributors like Indane, HP Gas or Bharat Gas. With this, an LPG consumer in these markets can now switch to the distributor of their choice within a cluster of LPG distribution in the vicinity under the LPG connection portability scheme. This measure will bring great relief to those LPG consumers who are unhappy with the services of their current distribution or want to move to an LPG distributor closer to their home.

APPLICATIONS INVITED FOR SAARC YOUTH AWARD 2014

Shillong, May 29, 2014: The Director, Sports and Youth Affairs, Meghalaya Shillong has invited applications for the SAARC Youth Award 2014 on the theme “Youth Leadership in Print and Electronic Media” to be recommended to Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs for onward submission to Ministry of External Affairs, SAARC Division, New Delhi.

The award is open only to young women within the age group of 18-30 years at the time of nomination with outstanding contribution to the Media Literacy, eradicating social ills and promoting social welfare and common good.

The award carries citation, SAARC Gold Medal and cash prize of US$ 3000.

Person who fulfilled the above criteria may apply in the prescribed form available in the office of the Director of Sports and Youth Affairs. The last date for submission of the application is on or before 6th June, 2014.
