Press Release No. 216/11 NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON HUMAN DEVELOPMENT IN NORTH EAST INDIA Shillong, May 3, 2011: A National Conference on “Human Development in North East India: Special Focus on Youth” organized by the P.A. Sangma Foundation, Tura and Synod College, Shillong was inaugurated by the Meghalaya Governor Mr. R. S. Mooshahary on 2nd May, 2011 at Dinam Hall, Shillong. Others present on the occasion include Km. Agatha K. Sangma, Union Minister of State for Rural Development, Mr. Thomas A. Sangma, MP Rajya Sabha, Mr. Conrad K. Sangma, Leader of Opposition, Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, Mr. P. A. Sangma, MLA, Mr. Ramesh Chandran, Executive Director Forum of Parliamentarians, FICCI, Dr. D. Wanswett, Principal Synod College. Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, Mr. Mooshahary said that the North East particularly its youth cannot remain isolated and need integration with the rest of the country, He, therefore called upon the organizer of the Conference to come up with recommendations to solve the isolation and let the youth of North East compete and be at par with the youth of the rest of the country. The Conference was divided into four sessions namely Governance Deficit: Impact on Youth, Youth and Unemployment, Youth and Environment and Youth and Sports. Each session was followed by interactive session, summing up and recommendations by the concerned Resource Persons. Prominent among the Resource Persons for the Conference are Mr. Ardent M. Basaiawmoit, MLA, Dr. C. S. Pran, NYKS, New Delhi, Mr. Brian Daly Kharpran and Mr. Larsing M. Sawain. |
