WORKSHOP ON REVIVAL OF PACS HELD

Shillong, May 30, 2012: Workshop on Revival of Primary Agriculture Credit Cooperative Society (PACS) in Meghalaya was held at Hotel Polo Towers, Shillong on 30th May 2012. It was held in view of the declaration of the International Year of Cooperatives organised by the office of the Registrar of Cooperatives Societies, Meghalaya, Shillong.

Meghalaya Additional Chief Secretary Mr. P B O Warjri, IAS, was the chief guest on the occasion. While addressing the gathering, he spoke about the need for cooperation and understanding in the management of the cooperative societies. He also urged the people to avail the facilities provided through these cooperative societies.

He further mentioned about the linkages of the cooperative society with agriculture sector and the products produce locally could be strengthened with joint initiative of these societies.

Smti R V Suchiang, Commissioner & Secretary, Cooperation, in her speech dealt at length with the functioning and challenges of the cooperative societies. She said that these challenges could be rectified by creating awareness among the people, which will increase the volume of their business.

Earlier in the program, D Vijay Kumar, Registrar of Cooperative Societies welcomed the gathering and gave the introductory speech. Others present at the function were General Manager, NABARD, Shillong, Managing Director, MCAB, Ltd, Shillong, other Officers and members of cooperatives societies.

JUSTICE (RETD) BERYL LAMARE PASSED AWAY

Justice (Retd) Beryl Lamare, former judge of the Guahati High Court passed away today morning at his residence in Upper Shillong at 10 am after a brief period of illness. He was 68 years. He was a judge of the Shillong Bench of the Guahati High Court from November 2000 till December 2005. He was also a judge in the Kohima Bench of the Guahati High Court. Justice Lamare was also Chairman of the Consumer Redressal Forum of Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh.

CM CONGRATULATES MEGHALAYA FIRST MT. EVERESTER

Meghalaya Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma has extended his heartiest congratulations to Gary Jarman Lamare for achieving the “most remarkable feat of surmounting the highest point on Earth – Mt. Everest.”

“It is an achievement that only Gary can fully comprehend and on behalf of the people of Meghalaya I extend my sincere felicitation to Gary Jarman Lamare for having put the State on the top of the world,” Dr. Sangma said.

Wishing Gary a safe and quick return, the CM urged upon other young people to “follow their dreams and aim to achieve the seemingly impossible.” Dr. Sangma informed that the government will formally felicitate Gary for his achievement.

SECTION 144 CR PC PROMULGATED AT KIANG NANGBAH COLLEGE

Shillong, May 30, 2012: The District Magistrate, Jaintia Hills District, Jowai has imposed an order under Section 144CrPC prohibiting assemble of more than four students in one place within a radius of 100(One hundred)metres from the Kiang Nangbah Government College campus, carrying of arms and other lethal weapons and obstruction of Students, Lecturers to attend class, duties.

This order comes into force with immediate effect and until further orders.

REGULAR SUPPLY OF LPG TO BE RESTORED BY JUNE

Shillong, 30th May, 2012: The Deputy Commissioner (Supply) Jaintia Hills District Jowai has informed the public that due to the burning at Numaligarh Refinery, there was shortage of cooking gas. Therefore, the consumers are requested to be patient until the normal supply from the refinery is restored by the end of June 2012.

FOUNDATION STONE FOR 100 BEDDED HOSPITAL AT AMPATI LAID

Shillong, 29 May: Meghalaya Chief Minister, Dr. Mukul Sangma, in presence of the Deputy Chief Minister, in-charge, Health, Mr. Rowel Lyngdoh, has laid the foundation stone for 100 bedded hospital for Ampati on 28th last.

In his speech Dr. Sangma urged the people of the area to avail the health-care facilities being rendered by the medical department at various levels. Expressing concern for improving of health-care facilities, Dr. Sangma informed the gathering that an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is being commissioned very soon at Tura Civil Hospital. He also mentioned that a Health Insurance Scheme will also be launched in the state.

The construction of 100 bedded hospital at Bandoraja, Ampati, will be completed in time without over-running time and cost, Dr. Sangma said. Speaking about improving and providing better health-care facilities, Dr. Sangma informed that medical college will be set-up at Balalgre near Tura for which the land acquisition process is on. With a view to improving of services in the health sector, Dr. Sangma said that Hospital Management Committees have also been constituted and various posts will shortly be created and sanctioned. He also expressed his gratitude to the Nokma of Bandoraja who had given 63.5 bighas of land, free of cost, for construction of100 bedded hospital. Deputy Chief Minister, in-charge of Health, Mr. Rowel Lyngdoh, speaking as the Guest of Honour, said that by providing more doctors, the health department will be able to improve its services. He also informed that medical colleges at Shillong and Tura will be operated under the PPP mode.

MEGHALAYA PHE MINISTER ATTENDED A CONFERENCE OF STATE MINISTERS AT NEW DELHI

Shillong, May 30, 2012: Shri S. Pale, Minister i/c PHE Department attended a conference of State Ministers on 25.05.2012 in New Delhi to review the implementation of Rural Water Supply Schemes and Total Sanitation Campaign in the State during 2011-12, hosted by Ministry of Drinking Water & Sanitation (MoDWS) and presided over by Shri Jairam Ramesh, Hon’ble Minister, MoDWS.

Ministry of Drinking Water & Sanitation has convened a 2 days Conference of State Ministers and Secretaries incharge of Rural Drinking Water Supply in New Delhi on 24th & 25th May 2012.

The 1st day of the conference was attended by State Secretaries and Chief Engineers. Shri P.W. Ingty, Principal Secretary, PHED, Shri S.K. Sunn, Chief Engineer, and Shri R.K. Pandey, Addl. Chief Engineer, represented Meghalaya.

The 2nd day of the conference was attended by State Ministers assisted by State Secretaries and Chief Engineers. Shri S. Pale, Hon’ble Minister i/c PHED represented Meghalaya. Shri Jairam Ramesh, Hon’ble Union Minister, MoDWS presided over the conference on both the days.

Implementation of Rural Water Supply Schemes under National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) is funded by MoDWS at the rate of 90 percent by the Centre and 10 percent by the State, and for Total Sanitation Campaign, the funding pattern is at the rate of 70 percent by the Centre and 30 percent by the State.

Following the interaction, Shri Jairam Ramesh has assured PHE Minister, Shri S. Pale that the 1st installment of the fund under NRDWP due for the State of Meghalaya shall be released before 05.06.2012 and also assured PHE Minister that he will look into his request to change the funding pattern for TSC from the existing rate of 70 percent by the Centre and 30 percent by the State to 90 percent by the Centre and 10 percent by the State.

As far as overall performance is concerned, Meghalaya attained the number 16 position in the Country.

CM INAUGURATES THE FARMER WORKSHOP ON LIVESTOCK AND POULTRY FARMING

Shillong, May 28: Meghalaya Chief Minister, Dr Mukul Sangma, today inaugurated the Farmer Workshop on Livestock and Poultry Farming organized by the A H and Veterinary department and distributed emu birds to beneficiaries at Rongkhon Vocational Training Institute, Tura.

Addressing the gathering Dr Sangma laid emphasis on the importance of educating prospective farmers on the basics of livestock and poultry rearing through workshops before taking up schemes provided by the government. He said that prospective farmers should be familiar with the suitable environment for livestock rearing, know what feed to give how and when thereby gaining the maximum benefit from the venture. Dr Sangma stressing on the importance of exercising market mapping said that when there is tremendous gap between supply and demand there is a need to close the gap by taking advantage of the situation and grasping the opportunity. Really what is required today is turning the Block into meeting points for farmers to plan and decide upon viable means of livelihood. Dr Sangma said and added that for the healthy growth of the economy of the state the government had to ensure higher per income generation of the people. Informing the gathering on various benefits of rearing emu birds as a livelihood activity Dr Sangma said that the government had to ensure that atleast three viable and sustainable livelihood activities for farmers.
