PLYING OF TRAILER VEHICLES PROHIBITED

Shillong, May 5, 2011: In the interest of public safety and convenience, the Transport Department, Government of Meghalaya, has prohibited the plying of Semi Articulated Vehicles consisting of Tractor and Trailer of 26.4GVW and above on the National Highway 40 on the Guwahati-Shillong Road and on the National Highway 44E on the Shillong-Jowai-Malidar Road. This order has been enforced as the plying of such Trailer Vehicles create traffic congestion and endanger the travelling public because of the nature of these hilly roads and the ongoing four lane expansion of GS Road.

However, such vehicles carrying special equipments required for project/industry in Meghalaya will be issued special permit by the concerned Deputy Commissioner at point of entry after due verification.

This order comes into immediate effect and shall remain in force until further orders.
