Press Release No. 193/10 WORLD RED CROSS DAY THEMED URBANIZATION OBSERVED AT RAJ BHAVAN Shillong, May 7, 2010: The World Red Cross Day under the theme, ‘Urbanization’ was celebrated today at Raj Bhavan, Shillong. Shri. R. S. Mooshahary, Governor of Meghalaya graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Others who graced the function were Shri. Hector Marwein, Principal Secretary, Home etc, Shri. W. R. Marbaniang, Director General, Civil Defence and Home Guard, Shri W. Khyllep, Education, Junior Red Cross (JRC) students and teachers. The President of Indian Red Cross Society, Meghalaya Branch, Shillong was also present on the occasion. Speaking in the occasion, Shri. R. S. Mooshahary lauded the efforts of the Red Cross Society in Shillong and congratulated the life members of the Society. Stating that the Society being a noble organization and a dedicated institution, it has gained a lot of support from the Government. While highlighting the causes and problems associated with urbanization which is mainly due to industrialization and globalization, Shri Mooshahary said that problems such as traffic congestion, inadequacy of shelter, health care, transport, inadequate water supply, inadequate facilities in hospitals and slums are some of the main problems caused due to urbanization. He called upon the people to be a model in eradicating the ills of urbanization. He also stated that this meeting shows the determination and commitment to resolve the conflicts we face in our life. Other highlights of the programme were songs, mock drill on disaster management, cultural dance by the JRC students, presentation of certificates and a slide show on activities reports 2009 of the Society. |
Press Release No. 194/10 FREE CANCER DETECTION CAMP Shillong, May 7, 2010: The Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Meghalaya is organizing a free Cancer Awareness and Detection Campaign in the State in association with the Roko Cancer Charitable Trust, India. The first mobile unit has already started its operation in the District of East Khasi Hills. The unit will travel the whole district of East Khasi Hills and it will station at the respective CHC/PHC as per the schedule prepared by the District Health authority. For the month of May, 2010 the Free Cancer Detection and Awareness Camp will be conducted from the 11th to the 26th May from 10 AM to 3 PM. On 11th May at Mawphlang PHC, 12th May at Mawsynram CHC. On 15th May at Rynjah State Dispy, on 17th May at Sohiong CHC, on 18th May at Pomlum PHC, on 19th May at Pynursla CHC, on 22nd May at Mawroh PHC, on 24th May at Mawryngkneng PHC and on 26th May at Smit st. Dispensary. |
