PUBLIC HEARING ON DELIMITATION

The Deputy Commissioner (Election), East Khasi Hills District, Shillong has informed to the general public that the Delimitation Commission of India will hold the public hearing in connection with the proposal for the delimitation for Parliamentary and Assembly Constituencies in the State of Meghalaya on 1st June, 2007 at 10.00 AM at the State Central Library, Shillong for the East Khasi Hills District.

Members of the public who wish to participate in the hearing, including those who have communicated their representation to the Delimitation Commission are requested to register their names in advance with the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong on or before the 17th May, 2007.

Members of the public are also requested to furnish a recent passport size photo to the Deputy Commissioner for issue of identity card to the applicant.

AWARENESS PROGRAMME ON NREGS

A Block level Meeting and awareness for the implementation of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Schemes (NREGS) within Umling Block of Ri Bhoi Distric was organized by the Programme Officer and Block Development Officer, Umling C & R D Block in collaboration with the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi District, Nongpoh at Science Hall, Nongpoh on May 16, 2007. The main aim of the awareness is to create awareness among the people of the area about the rules and guidelines for implementation of the Scheme and formation of Village Employment Council (VEC) and Area Employment Council (AEC).

The Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi District, Mr. S F Khongwir and Project Director, DRDA, Mr. E Kharmalki explained the people about the course of action for the implementation for the Scheme.

Headmen and Secretary from 114 villages of Umling Block participated in the programme.

DISTRICT LEVEL INTER SCHOOL ATHLETIC MEET AT NONGPOH INAUGURATED

The three day District Level Inter School Athletic Meet of Ri Bhoi District organized by the office of the District Sports Officer was inaugurated by the Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi District, Mr. S F Khongwir at the NSCA mini stadium, Pahamsyiem, Nongpoh on May 16, 2007.

In his speech, Mr. Khongwir lauded the organizers for conducting such an important event for the benefit of the students. He said that in today’s world sports and games is no longer recreational activity but it has become a curriculum for the students and a profession for those talented youth. He also urged upon the students to work hard so that they could be at par with other students of the district.

Others who spoke on the occasion were Ms. V D Kynjing, Inspector of School and Mr. P M Marbaniang, D S O.

Altogether 23 schools from different part of the district took part in the meet.

AWARENESS CUM TRAINING PROGRAMME HELD

The awareness cum training programme on Watershed was organized by the Wah Tyrsad Watershed Committee (WDPSCA) 2006-2007 and the Shillong Soil & Water Conservation (Territorial) Division at Tyrsad Mawlum L P School on May 15, 2006. Meghalaya Parliamentary Secretary, Mr. J A Lyngdoh grace the occasion as the chief guest.

In his speech, Mr. Lyngdoh lauded the Soil and Water Conservation for their untiring effort in implementing the project for the overall development of the area and the state as a whole. Stating that Nongspung constituency has been gifted with nine watershed project from the Soil and Conservation Department and two water shed projects from the Agriculture Department, he urged upon the members of the Water shed Committee to work hard in maintaining the watershed project for the benefit of the people of the area.

Later a training session Planning & Implementation of Project Activities, Treatment of Arable & Non Arable land & drainage line treatment in watershed was also held.

The function was also attended by senior officials from the Soil and Water Conservation, headmen from various localities and school children.

SECTION 144 CRPC PROMULGATED

After receiving information that there is illegal extraction of boulders at 110 KM and 111 KM on S.T. Road N.H. 40, the District Magistrate, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong has promulgated an order under Section 144 CrPC prohibiting extraction of boulders at 110 KM and 111 KM on S.T. Road N.H. 40, East Khasi Hills District.

This order has been issued in view of the fact that such activities cause soil erosion and result in the accumulation of spoils in the road side which in turn causes annoyance to vehicular traffic and may lead to road blockade and fatal accidents.

This order comes into immediate effect and remain in force until further orders.

PRICES OF ESSENTIAL COMMODITIES

The Director, Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Meghalaya, Shillong has informed that the following are the retail price (in kg/litre) of essential commodities as on May 16, 2007.

The retail price of rice per kg will be Rs. 13.00 (Common) and Rs. 13.60/Rs. 14.00 (Fine). The retail price of Atta and Maida per kg will be Rs. 14.00 and 16.00 respectively. The retail price of Gramdal and Turdal per kg will be Rs. 30.00/Rs. 32.00 and 35.00/Rs. 36.00 respectively. The retail price of Sugar per kg will be Rs. 17.00/Rs. 19.00. For Groundnut Oil the retail price per litre will be Rs. 42.00/Rs. 43.00, Rs.56.00/Rs. 58.00 for Mustard Oil (packet) and Rs. 60.00 for Vanaspati Oil (packet). The retail price of Tea will be Rs.170.00 (Loose) and Rs. 200.00 (packed). The retail price of Potato will be Rs. 10.00/Rs.12.00 per kg. Rs. 12.00/Rs.14.00 per kg will be the retail price for Onion. The retail price of packed Salt (Taja/C. Cook/Tata) will be Rs.09.00 and Rs. 5.00 per kg for loose. The retail price of Gur will be Rs. 26.00 per kg. The retail price of Toned Milk will be Rs.31.00 per litre. The retail price of Urad Dal is Rs. 49.00/Rs. 50.00, Moong Dal is Rs. 48.00/RS. 49.00 and Urad Dal (whole) per kg will be Rs. 46.00/Rs. 47.00. The retail price of Palm Oil per litre will be Rs.53.00. For Soya Oil the retail price will be Rs. 55.00. The retail price of Sunflower will be Rs. 78.00. The retail price of Tomato, Brinjal and Cabbage per kg will be Rs. 18.00/20.00, Rs. 14.00/Rs. 16.00 and Rs. 10.00/Rs. 12.00 respectively.

WATER SHED PROJECT INAUGURATED

The Wahpuni Micro Water Shed Project, a scheme under the Soil & Water Conservation Department was inaugurated today at Sohtyngkhur village near Mairang by Mr. H.D.R. Lyngdoh, local MLA and Co-Chairman, Meghalaya Economic Development Council.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Lyngdoh said that the day will be a memorable one for the people of the area and he expressed hope that everyone will be benefited by the scheme. Saying that the government is trying to meet the various needs of the people with its limited fund he urged the people to try to be self dependant taking full opportunity of what the government has provided. He urged the people to be attentive during the training session imparted by the officials of the Soil & Water Conservation Department which would be beneficial during the implementation of the scheme. He informed that for better health facility of the people of the area he informed that soon a PHC will be set up in the area.

Others who spoke on the occasion were Mr. D. Kharsyntiew, Joint Director, Soil & Water Conservation and Mr. K.L. Nongbri, Sub Divisional Officer (Civil) and Block Development Officer, Mairang Civil Sub Division.

Later on the day a training session was held for the people of the area for the implementation of the project.
