EMPOWERED SANCTIONING COMMITTEE CONSTITUTED

The Government of Meghalaya has constituted the Empowered Sanctioning Committee with immediate effect and till further orders. This was informed by the Commissioner & Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Home (Police) Department. The Committee will be headed by the Chief Secretary as its Chairman and members will include the Additional Chief Secretary, Finance Department/Principal Secretary, Finance Department, Principal Secretary, Planning Department and Principal Secretary/Commissioner & Secretary of Department concerned. The Principal Secretary, Personnel & AR Department will be the Member Secretary. The terms of reference of the Empowered Sanctioning committee is to examine and recommend the sanction of proposals for creation of both gazetted and non-gazetted posts on creation of new Districts/Sub-Divisions/Administrative Units/Police Stations and any other expenditure likely to arise upon the creation of new Districts/Sub-Divisions/Administrative Units/Police Stations.

NOTICE

The Chief Executive Officer, Jowai Municipal Board has informed all concerned that the Hon’ble NGT have found the seriousness of the health of Myntdu River, that the river have turn blue because of high acid content as per report prepared by Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board. The river being degraded by human intervention has reduced in size on account of heavy siltation, it was also reported that people indulges in open defecation as a result of which the faecal coliform and total coliform counts are very high and the BOD level is beyond the permissible limit, illegal stone and sand mining being carried on in and around the disposal of untreated wastes and water sewage of acidic contents of coal piled up on the river. Therefore in compliance to the Hon’ble NGT order dated 27th February, 2017, the Municipal Board has requested all inhabitants of Jowai town to construct septic tank, sanitary latrine in their respective houses and campus and to stop open defecation and direct discharge of effluent to drains, streams and water bodies. The CEO has also informed the public that no piggery, hatchery, poultry unit, farming are allowed to be established or set up near the Myntdu river Bank and all the existing lying on both side of the river are requested to stop operation with immediate effect. Any violation may attract penalty as per law.

CHIEF MINISTER INAUGURATES OFFICE CUM RECREATIONAL HALL AT PYNTHORUMKHRAH

Chief Minister, Dr Mukul M Sangma today inaugurated the Dorbar Shnong, Pynthorumkhrah, Golflinks Office cum Recreational Hall of the Hawkers Free Zone Market & Solar Lights of the Locality at Golflinks here this evening. Chief Minister, Dr Mukul M Sangma during his Inaugural Address said that the infrastructure will greatly benefit the people who carry on small business and who are often the most vulnerable section of the society. He also said that successful businessmen were once small time hawkers therefore he urged the people to take advantage of the facility to become successful entrepreneurs. Dr Sangma also stated that roadside vendors have drawn the attention of the government and the government is committed to ensure that the welfare and livelihood activities of the vendors are not dislocated by creating an enabling environment for those engaged in small time activities. He also added that markets in the state can be made attractive to become tourist destinations. Among others who were present during the Inauguration were A L Hek, Local MLA, Members and Executive Committee of the Dorbar Shnong and local residents and hawkers of the area.
