CUSTOMIZED TRAINING PROGRAMME ON CONTRACT MANAGEMENT AND QUALITY CONTROL ASPECTS HELD

Shillong, May 31, 2012: Meghalaya Minister for P.W.D. (R) Mr. H. D. R. Lyngdoh inaugurated the three day Customized Training Programme on Contract Management and Quality Control Aspects for the contractors and young engineers of Public Works Department, government of Meghalaya which got underway here today at Shillong Club, Shillong.

The three day training organized by the Public Works Department is being conducted by the experts from the Central Road Research Institute, New Delhi.

In his inaugural address, Mr. H. D. R. Lyngdoh said that road and communication play a vital role for development, upon which all other sectors are dependent. Thus the thrust, both at the State and Central level is development of transport infrastructure beginning with the process of construction of roads and bridges of which the construction industry is the main player.

Mr. Lyngdoh, also added that the construction industry is an important and necessary contributor to the growth of any economy. To achieve the ambitious target of high economic growth and development, fast growth of the construction industry is essential and the active role of the local construction industry and the local contractor is vital. Mr. Lyngdoh said that the competent contractors who observe business ethics and care for the quality of work, the environment, the safety of the workers and the public at large, serve the industry in a better manner. He also stressed the need that the contractors must ensure that their performance matches to the expectation of the employers as well as of the general public.

Earlier, Meghalaya Chief Secretary Mr. W. M. S. Pariat, said that this training is especially design to meet the requirements of the state which experience difficulty in road construction due to hilly terrain, soil condition, heavy rainfall and less working season. He called upon the participants to actively participate in all the sessions which will enhance their skill and knowledge to undertake the works effectively in the field of roads construction and others developmental activities.

The inaugural programme was chaired by the Principal Secretary, PWD, Mr. N. S. Samant. Others present on the occasion include Mr. S.B.Chyrmang, Secretary, PWD, Mr. M. M.Sun, Chief Engineer, PWD (Standard) Mr. M. Tariang, Chief Engineer, PWD (R), Mr. K. Passah, Chief Engineer, PWD (B) Mr. S. Pyngrope, Additional Chief Engineer, PWD ( R), Mr. T. K. Amla, Head, ILT, CRRI, Mr. K. Sitaramanjaneyu, Head, PED, CRRI, local contractor and Engineers of the Public Works Department.
