CM FACILITATED AT KHLIEHRIAT

Shillong, May 9th 2012: A grand felicitation programme for the Chief Minister of Meghalaya Dr. Mukul Sangma, was held today at KSDSA stadium, Khliehriat. The stadium was fulfilled with enthusiastic crowds of Khliehiat, from far and near villages under Khliehriat Sub-division. The function was attended by Minister for Education Prof. R C Laloo, Minister for PHE, Mr S Pale, Parliamentary Secretary, Mr. S Dhar, Mr. N Lyngdoh, MPCC, President who is also the Chief Adviser to the Government of Meghalaya, Dr D D Lapang besides host of dignitaries and others

In his speech, Dr. Mukul Sangma, in that it’s not an easy task to create a new district, but the support and the yearning of the MLA’s of the Jaintia Hills have made this day a memorable day, adding that the creation of the Khliehriat to a District will enable to provide better governance, open new avenues and better livelihood opportunities to the area, especially to unemployed youth of the area. Dr. Mukul Sangma said that the people are facing certain difficulties, the government is capable of addressing the deficiencies and is committed on meeting to the needs of the people. He informed that the various endeavors of the government will transform the state. He also expressed concerned that the education scenario in the state and the performance of the youth in competitive examinations, adding that coaching institutions will be set up in Shillong and Tura where aspiring candidates will be trained and counselled free of cost. Dr Sangma said that the government has come up with an idea to set up residential schools in every block of the state to bring about quality education in every nook and corner of the Meghalaya.

NOTIFICATION

Shillong, May 9th 2012: A meeting was convened by the Chief Minister, Meghalaya with all the registered Political Parties in the State on the 8th May, 2012 to discuss matters relating to registration of voters in the electoral roll under the continuous revision process. Representatives from seven Political Parties, namely, the Indian National Congress (INC), the United Democratic Party (UDP), the Hill State Peoples Democratic Party (HSPDP), Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), the KHNAM and the Communist Party of India (CPI) attended the meeting.

After detailed deliberations, where the instructions/guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India were also discussed, a consensus was arrived at that a committee with representatives of all Political Parties be constituted by the State Government, which will examine at length the standing instructions/guidelines of the Election Commission in the matter of registration process and methods and how these could be adapted to suit the local conditions and circumstances of the State in order to facilitate registration of genuine and eligible voters with least inconvenience to them. The Committee will be accordingly constituted forthwith and its suggestion and recommendations taken up with the Election Commission expeditiously.

In view of the step taken, Government appeals to the NGOs concerned to not to resort to any agitation, now that the Government and all the Political Parties are actively seized of the matter. The course of action adopted by the meeting with the Political Parties should lead to resolution of the issues raised and the Committee should be allowed to work towards this end expeditiously without any delay and disruption.
