DISTRICT ANIMAL MARKET MONITORING COMMITTEE CONVENED A MEETING AT AMPATI

To regulate the proper market of meat shops and animal markets under Prevention of Cruelty of Animals (Regulation of Livestock Markets) Rules, 2017, District Animal Market Monitoring Committee of South West Garo Hills sat for a discussion with the meat vendors and the market committee executives of South West Garo Hills at DRDA Conference Hall on Friday.

The district level meeting chaired by the Deputy Commissioner of South West Garo Hills, SK Marak, discussed the parameters of the Act and the Rules based on which the meat vendors and livestock markets of the district will have to start operating from now on.

Seeking cooperation and compliance, the Deputy Commissioner urged the market committees and the meat vendors to follow the prescribed Rules and also shift the meat shops away from the main roads or block the sight of the meat from public view at the shops till they sort out the new location

To prevent the cruelty of animals during transportation and also while storing them, District Veterinary Officer of Ampati, Dr. AM Momin explained the parameters of the Act and Rules which necessitates the need to take due care, so that animals can get the necessary comfort of space, shed, food and water during the journey and at market places. She also announced that livestock animals will have to undergo necessary tests, such as tests for swine flu and others before entering the butcher's area in order to determine if they are fit for human consumption.

Indicating that livestock markets will be regulated from now on, she also announced that it is compulsory for livestock traders and meat vendors to get themselves registered at Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Office, in order to continue with the trade. Expressing the challenges they would face, if the Rules are implemented immediately, the Market Committee executives conveyed their concern as Livestock Markets, which are mainly situated in Garobadha and Ampati Markets lack space and funds to build sheds for the animals, lack permanent buyers and sellers and that livestock traders in these markets are the locals who sell their domesticated animals to meet their household expenses during the times of their need.

SEMINAR FOR WEAVER ENTREPRENEURS HELD AT DIWON UMDEN

A one day seminar on the dissemination of government schemes under the Ministry of Textiles was today organized by National Handloom Development Corporation Limited at DUYA auditorium, Diwon, Umden in which around 150 weavers participated.

During the programme, Shri Streling Khymdeit, Secretary, Diwon village, said that skill development is highly essential for today’s world and as the Umden Diwon area is well known for weaving, he encouraged the weavers to make full use of the opportunity provided by the Ministry of Textiles. He emphasized the need to impart job and skill oriented knowledge to other villagers and he also appreciated the government for taking all the initiatives and necessary steps in helping the weavers to develop their crafts. He was so impressed by the huge turn-up of the weavers and advised them not only to avail the schemes and benefit but to utilize the schemes in a successful manner that would help them, their family income and social progress.

Shri Precious Tmung, President of Meghalaya Ryndia Producers Association and CoOwner of Zong hi i said that there are multiple benefits through the Ministry of Textile and Handlooms, where he called upon weavers’ society and individuals to avail the benefit and bring a success story to the Department and their own. He highlighted the weavers on the different schemes and projects of the Ministry of Textiles and encouraged them to avail and use them for the benefits of the society.

Nilesh Sukhadeve, Senior Manager, Commercial, NHDC Ltd. Guwahati while sharing the schemes, and their benefits like Transport subsidy on all varieties of the yarn and 15 percent subsidy on Natural fibres viz. cotton, silk, wool, linen and blende yarn of natural fibres can be avail by handloom weavers through Yarn Passbook. As Ribhoi district is rich in Eri Silk, weaver entrepreneurs should come up with their product for national as well as international market to explore the product for economic development of the handloom sector, he added. He urged the young women to take up handloom as professional career and establish themself as women entrepreneur in handloom sector with the help of RMSS and other govt. Schemes.

ROUNDTABLE SESSION ON INCREASING THE CREDIT FLOW IN MEGHALAYA HELD

With the aim of creating synergies for seamless credit flow for business and economic growth in Meghalaya, a Round Table Session on Increasing the Credit Flow in Meghalaya was held today at Pine Wood Banquet Hall, Shillong under the Chairmanship of Dr. Vijay Kumar D. Commissioner and Secretary, Finance, Government of Meghalaya. The programme was organized by the State Government in collaboration with Invest India, the National Investment Promotion and Facilitation Agency.

Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Vijay Kumar said that the vision of the Government is to make Meghalaya one of the top ten performing states in the country by 2032 and this can be achieved only through the existence of a strong, vibrant and thriving private sector which enables growth and creates jobs. Stating that the ‘blood flow’ of the private sector is credit, he stressed on the crucial role that banking sector and other financial services can play to create an enabling environment for the growth of the private sector. Reiterating the need to reduce dependability on government schemes, Dr. Vijay Kumar said that people should not shy away from taking credit for the enhancement of their businesses and stressed on the need to leverage on the banking system. He in turn also urged the banking and financial services players to ease banking services.

Delivering the concluding remarks Dr. B.D.R Tiwari, Commissioner, State Investment Promotion highlighted the importance of digital technologies, made available in a vernacular-based format, to increase financial literacy & awareness in the state, and emphasized on the vision to make Meghalaya one of the top 10 states by the next decade.

Mr. Varun Sood, Vice President, Invest India, delivering the welcome address shed light on the various state government initiatives that have been undertaken to support the entrepreneurs in the state. He stated that ‘credit is the lifeline for the private sector’ and stressed on the importance of sustainable partnerships between the banks and the entrepreneurs for creating adequate demand-supply for credit in the economy.

The technical session witnessed participation from select banking and financial services players like HDFC, Meghalaya Rural Bank, Meghalaya Cooperative Apex Bank, SBI, North East Small Finance Bank, entrepreneurs from Meghalaya such as Urlong Tea, DD Spice Products, Country Spices, etc, cooperative societies such as Mendipathar Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd, Meghalaya Rural Tourism Cooperative Federation Ltd. and relevant government stakeholders, and regulators like RBI, NABARD etc.

UNION MOS MINISTRY OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS AND EDUCATION REVIEWS CENTRAL SCHEMES IN EAST JAINTIA HILLS D

The Union Minister of State, Ministry Of External Affairs and Education, Shri. Rajkumar Ranjan Singh today chaired a meeting to review the central schemes implemented in the district at the conference room of the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District. The review meeting was also attended by Shri. D.K. Singh, Officer on Special Duty to the Union Minister of State, Shri. A. Baranwal, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat, Shri. S.S. Syiemlieh, MCS, Addl. Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat, the Block Development Officers of Wapung and Saipung C and RD Block, and Officers of the different departments of the District.

During the review meeting, Shri. A. Baranwal, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat presented a PowerPoint on the various central schemes implemented by different departments in the district. The central schemes reviewed during the meeting were Ayushman Bharat, PMMVY, MGNREGA, PMAYG, PM KISAN, Jal Jeevan Mission, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Poshan Abhiyan, National Food Security Act, PMGKAY, Mid Day Meal Scheme Rice and Swachh Bharat Mission Gramin among others.

Addressing the gathering, the Union Minister of State, Ministry Of External Affairs and Education, Shri. Rajkumar Ranjan Singh said that some of the schemes given by the government are well delivered, however more awareness needs to be given on several schemes relating to the women groups in particular and the society as a whole. He also mentioned that education is the right of every citizen and to deliver as per the constitution of India, it is the duty of the District Administration and more specifically the Education Department to try and improve the facilities of education to the community of this District.

The Union Minister of State also appealed to the District Administration and the Officers of the concerned departments of the District to provide a basic level of learning to the women groups so as to empower them. The Union Minister of State, Ministry Of External Affairs and Education, Shri. Rajkumar Ranjan Singh earlier visited Iongkaluh Village and inspected the Check Dam constructed under the MGNREGA in convergence with Meghalaya Basin Development Authority and the houses constructed under PMAYG Scheme. He also visited Moolamylliang Village, where he planted a tree sapling and interacted with the members of the Self Help Group The Union Minister of State also attended a Financial Literacy Camp held at Rymbai village and interacted with the beneficiaries on several central schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana MGNREGA Job Card, Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, and Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana, among others
