Press Release No. 262/10 WORLD BLOOD DONOR DAY 2010 TO BE OBSERVED Shillong, June 11, 2010: As part of the observance of the and to provide impetus to the ongoing National Voluntary Blood Donation Programme, the Meghalaya AIDS Control Society, the Meghalaya State Blood Transfusion Council and all the licensed Blood Banks of Meghalaya will be organizing campaigns on Voluntary Blood Donation on June 14, 2010. The theme for this year’s campaign is “New Blood for the World. To mark this occasion, a State level programme will be held at U Soso Tham Auditorium, Shillong on June 14, 2010 from 2:00 PM wherein the Chief Guest will be Fr. J Celia, SDB, Director, Don Bosco Youth Centre, Shillong and Prof. M E Yeolekar, Director NEIGRIHMS will be the Guest of Honour. Mr. P S Dkhar, Officer of Special Duty Health & Family Welfare, Government of Meghalaya will be the Chairman of the programme. Further, awareness campaigns on Voluntary Blood Donation will also be conducted in the six licensed Blood Banks of the State, namely, Regional Blood Bank, Pasteur Institute, Shillong, KJP Synod Hospital, Shillong, Nazareth Hospital, Shillong, Blood Bank Tura Civil Hospital, Tura Blood Bank, NEIGRIHMS, Mawdiangdiang, Shillong at Military Hospital, Shillong. In its efforts to spread awareness of making safe blood available for transfusion, Meghalaya AIDS Control Society and the Meghalaya State Blood Transfusion Council regularly reaches out to various groups and motivate them to donate blood regularly and voluntarily. Youth are encouraged to regularly volunteer for blood donation and carry forward the torch of selfless service towards achieving total voluntary blood donation. For this noble cause, all interested Voluntary Donors are invited to attend the said camps. |
