STUDENTS URGED TO BE CHANGE MAKERS

As part of the ongoing District Level Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan an awareness programme was held today at Kiang Nangbah Government College, Jowai, organised by the office of the District Social Welfare Officer, Jowai under the theme, " A National Movement towards a drug free India"

Smt. Y Najiar, DSWO in her introductory speech highlighted the serious and growing concern of drug abuse, especially among youths. She emphasised that the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan is not just a government campaign, but a collective national responsibility of every citizen aimed at protecting the future of the country.

She encouraged students not only to live drug free lives and to become role models and agents of change in their schools, communities and society. ts of change in their schools, community and society. She emphasised that their voice has the power to raise awareness, inspire and create lasting impact.

Shri. F. Passah, Assistant Legal Aid Defence Counsel of the district legal Service Authority spoke about the laws related to drug abuse in India and how they connect to the constitution of India. He explained about the Narcotic drugs and Psychotropic substance (NDPS) Act 1985. He added that drug abuse is a serious issue especially for the youth and needs to understand that people struggling with addiction need help not just punishment.

Shri. Chibait Langtang, (Taekwondo) and Brand Ambassador of the District Level Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan campaign, inspired the students and shared his journey in martial arts. He encouraged the youths to pursue discipline and strength through sports, urging them to choose health over harmful habits.

Shri. Barry L Kharmalki, General Secretary, Meghalaya State Network of Positive People, Shillong, a positive role model shared his personal journey of struggle and recovery and transformation. He spoke about this past struggle, saying “I lost my way, but I found strength to come back.” He motivated the students to make wise choices and reminded them that change is always possible. He also encouraged the students to stay away from harmful choices and believes in their own strength.
