Press Release No. 394/05 SECTION 144 CrPC PROMULGATED After receiving information that there has been massive blasting of dynamite, quarrying operation and cutting of earth in Barapathar, Umtyrnga, Maikhuli and Mawiong, the Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi District, Nongpoh has promulgated an order under Section 144 CrPC prohibiting blasting of dynamite, quarrying operation and cutting of earth in the said villages. This order comes into immediate effect and remains in force until further orders. |
Press Release No. 395/05 UNION MINISTER RELEASES BOOKS The Union Minister for Human Resource Development, Mr. Arjun Singh released two books entitled “Reflection of Shillong”, edited by Prof. David R. Syiemlieh and “From Residency to Raj Bhavan”, edited by Prof. Imdad Hussain of the North Eastern Hill University at the Durbar Hall of the Raj Bhavan, Shillong, on June 01, 2005. Others present on the occasion were the Meghalaya Governor, Mr. M. M. Jacob and Meghalaya Chief Minister, Dr. D. D. Lapang, Meghalaya Deputy Chief Ministers, Dr. Donkupar Roy and Dr. Mukul Sangma, Tourism Minister, Mrs. D. C. Marak, Taxation Minister, Mr. J. D. Rymbai, Minister of State, Mr. N. Lyngdoh and Meghalaya Chief Secretary, Mr. P. J. Bazeley and other senior officials of the State Government. Speaking on the occasion as the Chief Guest, Mr. Singh said that the books about the past accounts reflect the desire of the community to chronicle their own history. Expressing concerned over the turbulent history of the North East and Meghalaya in particular, Mr. Singh emphasised that the duty lies in strengthening the programmes and policies for the empowerment of the common man. Meghalaya Governor, in his presidential address said that the fire which gutted the Raj Bhavan Secretariat in 2003 was another factor which prompted him to speed out the documentation of the century old heritage building. He added that though proper documents and materials were turned into ashes on that fateful day, all attempts to piece together the history of the Raj Bhavan was made. Meghalaya Chief Minister, Dr. Lapang termed the released of the books as a historic event adding that Raj Bhavan has one of the most beautiful surroundings in the country. He said that the released of the books will raise the glory of Raj Bhavan and Shillong. It may be mentioned that the book “From Residency to Raj Bhavan” reveals about the history of Raj Bhavan, its long line of distinguished tenants and the role they played in making and unmaking of modern Assam, and after independence, its gradual transformation from a symbol of the Raj to that of the vibrant democracy in the successor State of Meghalaya. While the book “Reflections from Shillong” disclosed a selection of speeches delivered by the Meghalaya Governor between 2001 and 2005. The speeches show the familiarity of Mr. Jacob with the State of Meghalaya, where he has been the Governor for ten years, and the North East Region. |
Press Release No. 399/05 PRICE OF DAP REVISED The Director of Agriculture, Meghalaya, Shillong has informed that the price of Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP) for sale to the consumers of the State/Government Departments/Farmers has been revised with effect from 01-04-2005. For Government Departments, the price of DAP is Rs. 11,328.00 Per MT while for farmers the price is Rs. 9,985.00 per MT. The rate indicated above is inclusive of subsidy quoted by State Government and concession extended by Government of India against the Fertilizers. The subsidy shall be deducted at source by the MECOFED and Private Wholesaler on production of authority slips issued by DAO’s/DHO’s/SDAO’s to the bonified cultivators of the State. |
Press Release No. 400/05 TRAFFIC REGULATION IN WEST KHASI HILLS The Deputy Commissioner, West Khasi Hills District, Mr. D.K. Dkhar, has issued a notice to all truck owners and drivers that in view of the extensive damage to roads caused by coal laden four wheel trucks along the Nongstoin-Darugiri (Maweit road), plying of coal trucks either loaded or empty will be regulated on timing basis to be controlled by two checked gates set up for the purpose. The timing is 12 midnight to 3:00 A.M. and 12 noon to 3:00 P.M. for up traffic and 6:00 A.M. to 9:00 A.M. and 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. for down traffic. The Deputy Commissioner has also notified that all coal laden trucks plying on the Nongstoin-Shillong Road, Maweit-Nongstoin Road and Shillong-Bopo Road are not allowed to carry beyond 15 MT. Any violation of this order will be punished under Section 144 of the Motor Vehicle Act (MVA), 1988. If the offence of carrying more than the permissible weight is committed for more than once, penalty by way of fines will be imposed under Section 194 of the MVA, 1988. The vehicle has to weigh by authorised authorities at different points as arranged by the Transport authorities. These order comes into immediate effect and shall remain in force till further notice. |
Press Release No. 401/05 H D R LYNGDOH MET UNION AGRICULTURE MINISTER The Meghalaya Minister for Agriculture, Mr. H D R Lyngdoh met the Union Minister for Agriculture Mr. Sharad Pawar at New Delhi recently. Mr. Lyngdoh was accompanied by Mr. L Malngiang, Parliamentary Secretary, Dr. C O Rangad, District Agriculture Officer, East Khasi Hills and Mr. E Shanpru, District Horticulture Officer, Ri Bhoi District. In his meeting Mr. Lyngdoh has expressed his thankfulness to Union Minister for ensuring that the Post Graduate Agricultural College would be set up in Meghalaya and the foundation stone laying ceremony for the same would take place sometimes in June 2005. Mr. Lyngdoh also held a wide range discussions on Agriculture/Horticulture scenario in the State. Mr. Lyngdoh also met the Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Co-operation, Mrs. Radha Singh, were a wide range of discussion regarding the development and upgradation of the Agriculture and Horticulture sector in the State, Mrs. Singh expressed her satisfaction at the present implementation of the Central Schemes In Meghalaya. She also emphasized that the State Agriculture Produce Marketing Regulation Act should be amended at the earliest to facilitate flow of funds from the Ministry and more importantly to facilitate smooth and channelize marketing facilities in Meghalaya. Mr. Lyngdoh in his meeting stressed on potential market outlets for Agriculture/Horticulture products in the State. Mr. Lyngdoh also held a meeting with the Managing Director of the Maharashtra State Agricultural Marketing Board (MSAMB), Dr. R M Kharche and the Board of Directors of the Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) in the administrative building of the committee, Pune. Mr. Lyngdoh later also met the Director of Horticultural Training Centre, Dr. Suresh Dhumal and his faculty. |
