Press Release No. 223/22 8TH INTERNATIONAL DAY OF YOGA OBSERVED AT TURA Along with the rest of the World, the 8th International Day of Yoga was observed today with the theme Yoga for Humanity at District Indoor Stadium, Tura where Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills, Tura Swapnil Tembe graced the occasion as Chief Guest. The programme was organised by the District Medical and Health Office (DM&HO), West Garo Hills Tura. Speaking on the occasion, Sawpnil Tembe informed about various health benefits and fitness associated with the regular practise of yoga in our daily life. He also mentioned that it is a matter of great pride for India since yoga has become global and people across the world are taking part together for better health and wellness. Stating that Yoga is not only about exercise, but it has deep meaning with holistic approach to health, wellness and balancing the mind, body and soul. In his keynote address, Dr. Sambu Aryal, Medical Officer, Yoga and Naturopathy said that Yoga is an Art and Science for Healthy living based on an extremely subtle science which focuses on bringing harmony between body and mind. He also informed that the word Yoga is derived from the Sanskrit root Yuj meaning to join symbolising the union of persons body and consciousness and added that the aim of yoga is to overcome all kinds of suffering with holistic health, happiness and harmony and thus known for disease prevention, health promotion and management of many lifestyle related disorders. Further, he stated that few studies have also revealed the benefits of practising yoga which provides stability of Autonomic nervous system during stress, improve body flexibility, physical efficiency, improve cognitive functions such as concentration, memory, learning efficiency and helps obesity, diabetics, heart ailment, etc. During the function, different Yoga Aasnas was also demonstrated by Dr. Sambu Aryal where Deputy Commissioner, District and Session Judge, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Medical officers, nursing students and others join in to celebrate the International Day of Yoga. Dr. Bijoy Deb Barma, District Medical and Health Officer, Tura, Dr. Angelish A Sangma, Senior Health and Medical Officer, were among others present on the occasion. |
Press Release No. 224/22 UNION MOS MINORITY AFFAIRS JOHN BARLA LEADS 8TH INTERNATIONAL DAY OF YOGA CELEBRATIONS AT SHILLONG The Union Minister of State for the Ministry of Minority Affairs Shri John Barla today urged citizens to include yoga in their daily lives so that they lead a fit and healthy lifestyle. The Minister attended the 8 th International Day of Yoga celebrations in Shillong, Meghalaya as the Chief Guest where he highlighted the benefits of practising yoga regularly. Embracing yoga is necessary. Modern lifestyle has brought in many challenges such as stress and other lifestyle issues. Yoga is the solution to all these lifestyle concerns, said Barla while addressing today’s programme. He appealed the citizens to make a resolution to include yoga in their daily lifestyle. I am delighted to see kids here in today’s event. Every family should practice yoga to ensure good health, he added. The Minister further said that everyone in the country should join the effort of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to celebrate yoga in order to stay fit and healthy. This year’s theme is Yoga for Humanity and this is the quality that needs to be instilled in the early days of schooling, he exclaimed. The Government of India is celebrating the 8th International Day of Yoga (IDY) today. As the 8th IDY is falling in the 75th year of India’s independence, the Government of India has organised the event at 75 iconic sites across the country besides 75 locations across the world by different Indian embassies abroad with the concept of Guardian Ring. Meghalaya Health and Family Welfare Minister, Shri James P. K Sangma, who attended the event as the Guest of Honour expressed his gratitude and honour to be a part of this year’s celebrations. He said, It gives me so much pride that yoga that had originated in India is being celebrated internationally. It is a precious moment for us. Yoga has become a global phenomenon today. It has immense health benefits. It is not just a way of disciplining our body. It is also a way to discipline our minds. The Minister stressed on the role of yoga in preventive healthcare. The world we live in is stressful in nature and as we strive towards a world where prevention is better than cure, yoga plays an integral role in dealing with lifestyle diseases, opined Sangma. We must join hands to promote yoga and ‘Yoga for Humanity is an important theme to bring in the harmony and bring the entire world together. Principal Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Shri Sampath Kumar, Director of NEIAH Dr Neeta Mahesekar, students, teachers and dignitaries participated in the event organised at the convocation hall of the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong, Meghalaya. The Shillong edition was jointly organised by the Ministry of Minority Affairs and Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India in collaboration with Govt. of Meghalaya. Around 800 individuals comprising of students of NEIAH, Shillong Polytechnic and Defence Personnel among others took part in the event. Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi participated along with thousands of participants in a Mass Yoga Demonstration at Mysore Palace ground, Mysuru, Karnataka. The Prime Minister’s Yoga programme at Mysuru is also part of the novel programme Guardian Yoga Ring which is a collaborative exercise between 79 countries and United Nations organisations along with Indian Missions abroad to illustrate Yoga and unifying power that surpasses National boundaries. |
Press Release No. 225/22 ROADSHOW As part of the observation of International Day against Drug abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2022, the Office of the District Social Welfare Officer, East Khasi Hills Shillong today conducted a Roadshow programme at Nongmensong market. Addressing the gathering, Smti M.L Warjri, DCPO, District Child Protection Unit, East Khasi Hills, Shillong highlighted on the objectives of the programme saying that addiction in drugs or any substance has become a disease in the community. She called upon the cooperation of individuals, NGOs and the community as a whole to eradicate this disease for the welfare of the youth. |
Press Release No. 226/22 MP AGATHA SANGMA LAUNCHES MUSIC INCUBATION On the occasion of World Music Day, Tura MP, Agatha K Sangma, launched the Prime Music Incubation which was sponsored by the PRIME Meghalaya in collaboration with Durama Association of Music and Arts in the presence of West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Swapnil Tembe, Sub-Divisional Officer (C), Dadenggre Civil Sub-Division, Vibhor Aggarwal, the members and officials of Prime Meghalaya, music enthusiasts, school children and other dignitaries at District Auditorium, Tura, on 21 June. Speaking on the occasion Agatha said that the music incubation is providing opportunity to all the talented young people to actually showcase the immense talent they have and provide them with technical and other forms of support that they would require. She also informed that the Govt. recognizes and supports what the youth require and through the initiative of launch-pad, the Govt. of Meghalaya is recognizing and giving in opportunity or platform where the young talents can explore their interests and their talents. |
Press Release No. 227/22 CM REVIEW WORST HIT SOUTH GARO HILLS Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday reviewed the worst-hit South Garo Hills district, where road communication through National Highway – 62 has been completely cut off for the past four days with over 40,000 people affected. South Garo Hills, along the India – Bangladesh border has witnessed multiple landslides and many areas like Maheskola and Siju remaining without any road link. At least six bridges, including suspension and wooden bridges has been washed away in the district with mobile and electricity connection disrupted. Electricity connection has been disrupted in Baghmara town, Karukol, Rongsa Awe, Siju, Rongara, Gasuapara, Chokpot, amongst other villages. Officials informed the Chief Minister during the review meeting that restoration work is currently underway. Indian Air Force on Tuesday late afternoon air lifted essential commodities at Maheskola. A total of eight people have lost their lives in landslides at Bolsalgre, Siju and Rongsa Awe, of which one is a minor aged 4 years and two persons are still missing from Rongsa Awe. Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma will meet the family of the deceased. He is traveling to Siju from Karukol in boat, a journey that will take at least 2.5 hours and then trek for 6 km to reach the families at Siju and Rongsa Awe. An ex-gratia amount of Rs. 4 lakh each for a person deceased in a family will be released during the visit of the Chief Minister. A total of 30 villages including Siju, Emangre, Jadi, Nongalbibra, Karukol, Maheskola, Kalu, Kanai, Bonbera, Rongru Asim has been cut off from the district headquarter of Baghmara. The Chief Minister has directed the officials that restoration of roads and electricity should continue. Officials has informed that in next 2-3 days, the road connectivity along NH-62 will be restored and for light motor vehicles and at least 20-25 days would be required for roads to restored for heavy vehicular movement. Earlier in the day, Chief Minister visited affected areas under Dalu block in West Garo Hills and reviewed the situation with officials of the district. In Dalu area, at least 5 wooden bridges has been damaged disrupting communication in several villages and soil erosion affecting villages along the Balka river. |
