Press Release No. 742/17 GOLDEN JUBILEE OF SHILLONG COMMERCE COLLEGE CONCLUDES The Golden Jubilee Celebrations of Shillong Commerce College concluded here today at a function held at U Soso Tham Auditorium, Shillong which was attended by Chief Minister, Dr Mukul M Sangma as the Chief Guest. Also present was Guest of Honor, Minister, Education, Higher & Technical Education etc. Roshan Warjri. Speaking to the gathering on the occasion, Chief Minister, Dr Mukul M Sangma said that the celebrations give an opportunity to connect with the great History of the college. He also said that Education provides the whole wherewithal for the youth to realize their own capabilities and potentials based on which one can prepare his future plans. He stated that there are diverse opportunities available and preparation of the students to make the right career choices is crucial. “Inclusive and aggregated career guidance and prospective assessment of emerging opportunities starting from the Secondary level must be given in every educational institution”, said the Chief Minister. He also said that institutions should nurture and guide the students to realize their capacities and competency so that each individual can bring out his inherent strengths. Dr Sangma also said that Shillong Commerce College with its glorious 50 years can be a brand in itself to promote quality education and attract students from the North East and beyond. He urged the students to dare to dream big bringing out the best in them and thus participate in nation building. Guest of Honor, Roshan Warjri in her address said that this access to Commerce stream adapting to changing contours of Education branching out from the conventional streams of Science and Humanities was the result of the farsightedness of the founding members of the college. Shillong Commerce College was started in June 1967. The college has 25 full time lecturers, 15 office staff with strength of 1150 students. The college has produced students who have done remarkably well in their lives. The college strives to provide holistic education with a vision of being an accessible, responsive and inclusive college. Earlier, the Chief Guest also released the Golden Jubilee Magazine to commemorate the occasion. Among others present was Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills, P S Dkhar and Director, NEIGRIHMS, D Thapar. |
