TUBERLIN LYNGDOH APPOINTED CO-CHAIRMAN MSDRC

Shillong, June 25, 2010: The Government of Meghalaya has appointed Mr. Tuberlin Lyngdoh, Ex-MLA as Co-Chairman of the Meghalaya State Development Reforms Commission (MSDRC) with effect from the date of assumption of charge and until further orders. This was informed by the Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Programme Implementation & Evaluation Department.

14TH STATE COUNCIL MEETING OF THE MEGHALAYA BHARAT SCOUTS AND GUIDES HELD

Shillong, June 25, 2010: The Annual State Council Meeting of the Meghalaya Bharat Scouts and Guides was held today the 25th June 2010 at the Conference Hall of the Main Secretariat building, Shillong. Mr. W. M. S. Pariat, Meghalaya Chief Secretary, also the President of the State Association presided over the meeting. Other dignitaries include Mr. P. S. Thangkhiew, Principal Secretary, Education, Mr. W. R. Marbaniang, DGP Home Guards and Civil Defence, Mr. W. Khyllep, Director of Higher and Technical Education and SSC of Bharat Scouts and Guides, Mrs. A. Swer, State Secretary, Inspector of Schools, Secretaries, various District Commissioners and other members of the Bharat Scouts and Guides.

During the meeting various issues were discussed which included the resolutions of the 13th State Council Meeting, the action taken report, a power point presentation highlighting the activities, workshops, events and awards received by the members during the year 2009-10. The Annual reports of various Districts of the State were also read out by the respective representatives, consideration and adoption of Budget proposal for 2011 -2012 with special focus to salaries of the 7 districts employees were also discussed.

Other discussions included construction works of the Old and New Building, maintenance of the property owned by the Meghalaya Bharat Scouts and Guides at Umtyngar and how to generate funds to meet the requirements and to form a Committee in this regard.

NOMINATIONS INVITED FOR GROUND WATER AUGMENTATION AWARD

Shillong, June 25, 2010: The Ministry of Water Resources, Government of India invites nomination for Ground Water Augmentation Award (Bhoomijal Samvardhan Puraskar) and National Water Award (Rashtriya Tal Puraskar) for the year 2009. The award will be given for the best innovative practice of water conservation, recycling and reuse, water use efficiency, ground water augmentation through rain water harvesting and artificial recharge, efficiency, ground water augmentation through rain water harvesting and artificial recharge. There are 21 awards including one National Award. Each award carries a cash prize of Rs. 1:00 lakh and a plague with citation and National Water Award carries a cash award of Rs. 10:00 lakhs and a plague with citation.

Interested persons/organisations may send the recommendations with citation and testimonial to the office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong latest by June 30, 2010.

SECTION 144 CRPC PROMULGATED

Shillong, June 25, 2010: The District Magistrate, West Garo Hills District has promulgated an Order under Section 144 CrPC prohibiting movement of persons individually or in groups at night between 8:00 PM and 5:00 AM in the entire area lying within a distance of 1Km from international border with Bangladesh in West Garo Hills District with immediate effect.

The order was necessitated in view of reports that some persons or groups having links with extremist organisations or underground elements are likely to infiltrate into the District from the adjoining Districts of Bangladesh.
