VERIFICATION OF TEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAMME NOT RECOGNIZED BY THE NCTE STRESSED

The Joint Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Education Department has informed that some institutions and private universities, not recognized by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) are issuing advertisements inviting applications for admission to various teacher education courses, thereby misleading the candidates desirous of joining such teacher training programmes.

All such students are therefore, advised to verify the status of recognition of an institution for conducting a particular teacher education programme by the NCTE before applying for admission in a particular institution. The list of teacher training institutions recognised by the NCTE, the full text of the NCTE Act, 1993 and the related regulations are available on the NCTE Website www.ncte-in.org.

All the examining bodies are also advised not to grant affiliation to institutions undertaking teacher training courses not recognized by the NCTE and allow students of such institutions to appear in examination conducted by them. Any such activities would be treated as a violation of the provision of the NCTE Act.

It may be mentioned that the NCTE has been established under NCTE Act, 1993, (Act No. 73 of 1993) with a view to achieving planned and coordinated development of teacher education system throughout the country, the regulation and proper maintenance of norms and standard in the teacher education system and for matters connected therewith.
