NASHA MUKT BHARAT ABHIYAN CAMPAIGN KICKED OFF IN WEST JAINTIA HILLS DISTRICT

Shri. Abhinav Kumar Singh, IAS Deputy Commissioner of West Jaintia Hills inaugurated the District Level Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan campaign today in the training hall, DC office, Jowai. Jointly organised by the office of Deputy Commissioner, West Jaintia Hills and District Social Welfare Officer, Jowai in collaboration with the registered NGOs and Member Selected funded by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment Government of India, on the theme “Substance Abuse -Prevention Treatment and Rehabilitation”

Addressing the urgent need to combat substance abuse in the community, Shri. Abhinav K Singh emphasised the importance of collective action and community involvement. "Hopes that through this initiative, and with the collaborative efforts of all departments, West Jaintia Hills District can achieve a status of a Nasha Mukt district contributing to a Nasha Mukt India." He also outlined a series of programmes which will be conducted as part of the campaign, including drawing competition, marathon and street play. He also informed that awareness programmes will be conducted across the district to engage and educate people of all ages.

Additional Superintendent of Police Ishan Gupta, IPS emphasises the critical need to confront the escalating issue of drug abuse. He highlighted the menace is not only a national crisis but is increasingly affecting local communities within the district across both urban and rural areas. Fighting drug abuse requires urgency and collective resolves, Gupta said.

These activities will be carried out with the collaboration of Social Welfare department, Police Departments, District Medical & Health Officer (DM&HO), District Legal Service Authority (DLSA), Sports departments, NGO groups Breakthrough, Khliehtyrshi, Society for Urban and Rural Empowerment and Mihmyntdu Communities Social Welfare Association Jowai.

Among those present were the Brand Ambassador of Nasha Mukt Campaign Shri. Chibait Langstang, Dr. JN Chullai Director MCSWA, Shri. C.S Laloo, Rtd. Controller Legal Metrology, Jowai, Smt. Y. Najiar, District Social Welfare Officer, Jowai.
