SPORT PERSONS FELICITATED

Shillong, June 4, 2013: The Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs Meghalaya today felicitated the outstanding sport persons who have excelled at various levels including State, Regional and National competitions at J. N. Stadium Indoor Sport Hall, Polo Ground, Shillong. The felicitation ceremony was attended by Meghalaya Minister for Labour and Urban Affairs Dr Ampareen Lyngdoh as the Chief Guest. Cash incentives were awarded to the achievers in different disciplines during the ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion as Chief Guest, Dr. Ampareen Lyngdoh acknowledged the hard work and immense contribution of the sport persons. She asserted that the award is very less compared to the contributions done by them for the state and assures that the state government will give due credit and better opportunities for all the sporting talents of the state.

Dr. Lyngdoh further stated that children who remain indoors without playing are not healthy and urge the parents and teachers to motivate each and every child to play or engage in outdoor activities. Moreover, she insisted that the students while grooming their sporting talents should keep a balance with their studies and sports.

Cash awards were distributed in the field of Athletics, Basketball, Table Tennis, Judo, Wushu, Boxing, Archery, Hockey, Kabaddi, Karate, Arm Wrestling, Kick Boxing, Football and Rock Climbing and Mountaineering.

Commissioner and Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Mr. D P Wahlang who is also the Guest of Honour of the function thanked the directorate for recognizing the talents and efforts of the youth to excel in various competitions that they participated. He remarked that students who perform at the right time and age get better opportunities and highlighted that there is no substitute for hard work.

President of the Meghalaya State Olympic Association Mr. R G Lyngdoh congratulated and encouraged the youth to showcase their talents which will help them to seek sponsors from the private sectors.

MEGHALAYA SCOUT AND GUIDE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING HELD

Shillong, June 4, 2013: The Meghalaya Scouts and Guide, Branch of Adult Members held it’s Annual General Meeting on 31st May 2013 at the Conference Hall of the Bharat Scout and Guides.Besides conducting their meeting, the members also felicitated Dr. A. Begum who was honored by the Government of Bangladesh with the “Friends of Liberation War Honour”.
