GREEN AMBASSADORS CONCLAVE FOR SENSITIZATION ON IBDLP INITIATIVES HELD

Shillong, June 26, 2015: The Meghalaya Institute of Natural Resources (MINR) of the Meghalaya Basin Development Authority (MBDA) organized a one day Green Ambassadors Conclave for Sensitization on IBDLP Initiatives today at Sri Aurobindo Institute Hall, Bishop Cotton Road, Shillong.

Speaking at the inaugural function as Chief Guest, Meghalaya Chief Secretary, Shri P. B. O. Warjri said that the green ambassadors initiative is an effort taken up by the Government to create awareness and bring about a sense of responsibility among the communities. “There is an urgent need for us to appreciate the value of our surroundings and it is high time that everyone realize the need to preserve our environment and respect all that Mother Nature has given to us,” he added. While highlighting the importance of preservation of trees and forests, Shri Warjri said that the people at large should not only confine themselves with the plantation of only one or two species of trees but for the overall sustenance of life there should be a variety of species to cater to the various needs of the living beings. He also stressed on the promotion of natural fertilizers and said that the promotion of natural fertilizers and the green mission goes hand in hand as both culminates into one single result that of the health and well being of the citizens and urged the green ambassadors gathered at the function to take up the cause and carry on the good message.

In his introductory speech, Shri R. M. Mishra, CEO, MBDA said that green ambassadors should know about the responsibilities that they have embarked upon and added that they have a unique role to play in passing on the message about the treasures that are available in the State and create awareness in preserving them. “Respect Mother Nature and if you nurture it well, mother nature will give you back in a million of ways that will benefit us and the State,” he said.

Director, (Admin) MBDA, Shri A. B. S. Swer chaired the inaugural function. Additional PCCF (Social Forestry), Shri C. P. Marak delivered the welcome address and OSD, MINR, MBDA, Shri L. Shabong offered the vote of thanks.

The inaugural function was followed by a series of sessions where various topics like Mission Green & Community Nursery, Organic Mission/Seed Bank, Spring Protection Initiatives and Water Plus were put up for discussions.

GOVERNOR AS PRESIDENT OF IRCS MEGHALAYA

Shillong, June 26, 2015: The Members of the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Meghalaya Branch met the Governor of Meghalaya, Shri V Shanmuganathan on June 17, 2015 and apprised him of his position as President of the Indian Red Cross Society, Meghalaya Branch, which he gladly accepted.

The members of the IRCS, Meghalaya, presented its President with a bouquet, some literature on the Red Cross Movement, a Red Cross Scarf and a Life Member Badge of the Red Cross. He was also informed of the activities undertaken by the IRCS, Meghalaya Branch, over the years.

The IRCS, Meghalaya, was represented by Mr. W R Marbaniang, IPS (Retd) who is the Chairman, Mrs. Amelia Swer, Vice Chairman (E), Ms. Diana E Kharshiing, General Secretary, Mrs. A S Rangad and Dr. L E K Marbaniang, Executive Members.
