Press Release No. 112/23 NATIONAL FISH FARMERS DAY 2023 OBSERVED IN EAST JAINTIA HILLS DISTRICT The Office of the Superintendent of Fisheries, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat today observed the National Fish Farmers Day at the premises of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office. The National Fish Farmers Day is celebrated on the 10th of July every year to mark the achievements of developing the technology of induced breeding by hypophysation techniques and to recognize the contributions of fish farmers, the aquaculture industry, research Institutes, and other stakeholders for their dedicated efforts, innovations, and visions for the development of the fisheries sector. The Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat, Shri. A. Baranwal, IAS, the Superintendent of Fisheries, East Jaintia Hills District, Shri. H. Kharbuki along with the beneficiaries participated in the National Fish Farmers Day Meet-2023 organized by the Department of Fisheries, Government of India at Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu which was broadcasted through Webex Video Conferencing. As part of the observation, 176 number of Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) Projects covering 18 States were virtually inaugurated by the Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India, Shri. Parshottam Rupala in the august presence of Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Balyan, Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India, Dr. L. Murugan, Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying and Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, and Shri. A. L. Hek, Minister of Fisheries, Government of Meghalaya. Additionally, for East Jaintia Hills District, a Motor Cycle with Ice Box and 3(Three) numbers of Three Wheelers with Icebox under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) scheme was virtually inaugurated by the Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India, Shri Parshottam Rupala during the National Fish Farmers Day Meet-2023. Four beneficiaries benefited from the PMMSY scheme inaugurated today and the above-mentioned mobile transportation for fish and fish products was handed over to beneficiaries after the programme. |
Press Release No. 113/23 GOVT SIGNS SERIES OF MOUS WITH NTPC The Government of Meghalaya and NTPC Limited, a leading energy conglomerate, have signed a series of Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at enhancing the power scenario in Meghalaya. The signing ceremony took place at New Delhi in the presence of Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, Power Minister Abu Taher Mondal, Gurdeep Singh, Chairman and Managing Director of NTPC Limited and Sanjay Goyal, CMD, MeECL These strategic MoUs mark a significant milestone in the collaborative efforts to uplift the power infrastructure and connectivity across Meghalaya. The agreements encompass the Power Portfolio Management Services (PMS) for Meghalaya Discom, setting up of Pump Storage Power Plants (PSPs), and implementation of Floating Solar projects in the state. The PMS MoU between the Government of Meghalaya and NTPC Limited will streamline the management and operations of Meghalaya Discom, ensuring efficient distribution of power and improved service delivery to the people. It also aims at better power portfolio management of MeECL through a team of professionals thus building upon the strength and expertise of the NTPC in this field. It will also lead to judicious utilization of own power resources of MeECL as well as better mix and use of renewable and green energy available in the country. By leveraging NTPC's expertise in project management, this partnership aims to enhance the overall power infrastructure and reduce transmission losses. Additionally, the MoUs emphasize the development of Pump Storage Power Plant (PSPs) and the deployment of Floating Solar projects in Meghalaya. It also aims at exploring the untapped potential on the small hydro projects. It will also study the feasibility of setting up the pump storage plants which will generate electricity and the water will be pumped back again to the reservoirs like Umiam so that the water can be used again and again to meet the peak demand. It will also explore the possibility of setting up floating solar power unit in Umiam and other water bodies. This MOU aims at taking Meghalaya ahead in green and clean energy and at the same time aiming at self-sufficiency in power generation. The establishment of PSPs will strengthen power connectivity, especially in remote areas, while Floating Solar projects will capitalize on Meghalaya's resources to generate clean energy. Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma expressed his optimism about the collaboration, stating, that the signing of the MoU will go a long way in improving the overall power scenario of the state. Our commitment to enhancing power connectivity in Meghalaya is reflected in these positive interventions. Power Minister Abu Taher Mondal emphasized the significance of the collaboration in addressing the challenges faced by the state of Meghalaya. He expressed his optimism about the positive impact that this partnership would bring to the region. By forging a strategic alliance with NTPC, Minister AT Mondal believes that Meghalaya will be better equipped to overcome the various hurdles it currently encounters in the power sector. |
