Press Release No. 211/08 SIP HELD AT MAWKYRWAT A one day Special Interactive Programme on the theme “Changing Attitude towards Environmental Issues for Safer and Prosperous Future”, organized by the office of the Sub Divisional Public Relations Officer, Mawkyrwat, West Khasi Hills in collaboration with the office of the Block Development Officer, Mawkyrwat was held at Mawlangwir Community Hall on July 10, 2008. The Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations, Mr. P Marbaniang inaugurated the programme amidst the presence of members of Self Help Groups from across the area. In his inaugural speech, Mr. Marbaniang said that the main aim of the programme is to bring awareness to the people on the programmes and policies of various government departments. He said that the theme of the day has a deep meaning and therefore called upon the people and the SHGs to widen their vision so that they can strengthen their economy. He also said that it is high time to understand the conditions of living. He urge upon the members to work harder, to make use of their skills and wisdom and to come up with a new outlook for their prosperous future. Later in the second half a public meeting was held at the same venue wherein the SDO (C) incharge Mawkyrwat, Mr. P S Kharkongor was the Chief Guest. Resource persons from line departments which included Mr. H S Diengdoh, BDO Mawkyrwat, Mr. B Bareh, RO, Social Forestry, Mr. P Marwein, R O Soil Conservation and Mr. N Wanniang of DI office, Mawkyrwat and Mrs. J Umdor, CDPO detailed the public on the implementation of schemes and various activities of their respective departments. Lauding the organizers of the programme, Mr. Kharkongor, in his speech, said the the aim of the programme is to feed the people with information on the achievements and the progress of work under government departments. He hoped that the programme had enlightened the public and make them aware on the facilities prevailed in the government. He called upon the people to come forward to work hand in hand with the government for the all round development of the Sub-Division in particular and the State in general. Other highlights of the programme included a debate competition on the day’s theme which was participated by members of the Cluster Leader Federation of the Self Help Groups and school students of the area. Mrs. P Lyngdoh of Ialumlang Cluster Leader Federation Mawthawpdah and Fillbert Lyngkhoi of Christian Principle Academy Secondary School, Mawkyrwat were declared Best Debators while Donbok Syiemiong of Nativity Secondary School Mawkyrwat was declared Runner-Up. Prizes including certificates and trophies were given away to the participants. The meeting was presided over by Mr. R Susngi, SDPRO, Mawkyrwat while Mr. T Wanniang, Myntri Shnong Mawlangwir offered the vote of thanks. |
