Press Release No. 786/17 NOTICE The Assistant Executive Engineer, RD Construction Sub-Division, MeEPDCL, Shillong has informed the public, especially the inhabitants of Mawprem Mission, Nongmadan, Mawrohroh, Mawlaitshong, Pataghat, Lummuri, Lumpukri, Mawkynring, Nashin, Mawbarem, Mawkliar and Nongumlong, that a high tension line (11 KV) passing through their respective villages will be charged very soon. Therefore all public residing beside and around the 11 KV line and the Sub Station are requested not to touch or tamper the electrical materials so as to avoid any interruption or electrical accidents. |
Press Release No. 787/17 MISSION UNITE (U N I TOWARDS ENROLMENT) The office of the District Election Officer, West Khasi Hills District organized a function as part of the District launching of Mission UNITE (U n I towards Enrolment) in West Khasi Hills District on 12th July 2017 at New Nongstoin Play ground. The programme was attended by Shri D Jyndiang, local MLA as the Chief Guest in the presence of Shri P D Sangma, Additional Deputy Commissioner and ERO of the District, AEROs, BLOs, District Officials, Headmen of Nongstoin Town area, teachers and students of various educational institutions and the general public. The objective of the District launching of Mission UNITE is to sensitize the citizens particularly the youth in the age group of 18-21 years of age who do not possess an EPIC to get themselves enrolled in the Electoral Roll. The District Election Officer, West Khasi Hills District, Nongstoin under the umbrella of Mission UNITE (U n I towards Enrolment) has launched Special Campaigns at various educational institutions wef 1st July 2017 to sensitize young voters about the electoral process and encourage new ones to enroll themselves. These special campaigns were also conducted by AEROs at market places across the District. Similarly, BLOs have been deputed for door to door enrolment of left out voters, especially those between the age group of 18 and 21 years. The Chief Guest in his speech relates the voters’ rights to an effective democracy. He stated that young voters have the power to change the entire democratic set up by garnering knowledge about the electoral process and being informed about the various rights and duties as young eligible voters. He applauded the initiatives taken by the ECI and the Election Department of the State to create mass awareness and sensitize citizens particularly the young voters about the importance of participation in the electoral process by getting themselves enrolled. The District launching of Mission UNITE was also done by him thereafter. Additional Deputy Commissioner, Shri P D Sangma in his speech highlighted the importance of the Special Campaign being launched by the ECI and also the need for young eligible voters to enroll themselves in the electoral roll. There was also special enrolment drive of youth who have attained the age of 18 years as on 1.1.2017 but who do not have an EPIC. Other highlights of the programme include songs by students of Nongstoin College, Drill on Mission UNITE by St Peter’s Higher Secondary School students and a ladies exhibition football match between Sibsingh Memorial Government Hr Secondary School and Nongstoin College. |
Press Release No. 788/17 SPECIAL ENROLLMENT DRIVE The Office of the District Election Officer, East Khasi Hills will conduct a Special Drive on the 22nd July, 2017 for enrollment of left out voters with focus on first time electors in the age group of 18-21 years. All eligible persons are requested to avail the opportunity by filling Form 6 at their respective Polling Stations with supporting documents like Birth Certificate, Admit Card, etc to prove the date of birth, copy of Electors’ Photo Identity Card of parents/relative to ascertain the House No. in addition to 2 (two) numbers of Passport size photographs. Press Release No. 789/17 SUSPENSION FOOT BRIDGES INAUGURATED Two suspension foot bridges over river Daru at Ampati and Rajarongchu were today inaugurated by Meghalaya Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma. The bridge at Rajarongchu spanning 120 meters and at Ampati spanning 60 meters were sponsored by SIDF under Border Areas Development. Commending the department of Border Areas Development Dr Sangma said that the two bridges would immensely benefit the people of the areas. The Chief Minister said that the completion of the bridges within a given time frame was itself a challenge and reflected the dedication of the concerned officers towards the people of the region. Speaking on the need to uphold traditional customary laws pertaining to A•king land laid down by our forefathers Dr Sangma urged everyone gathered to look back and learn from our ancestors. Land laws given down generation to generation dictates that a certain portion of the land is kept aside for right of way for the community said Dr Sangma who lamented that the government was facing hurdles implementing schemes due to want of land. |
Press Release No. 790/17 FACILITATION PROG FOR ENTREPRENEURS ON MANUFACTURING OF HERBAL COSMETICS HELD Hundreds of trained entrepreneurs gathered today at the Facilitation programme for manufacturing of herbal cosmetics products at Ampati Multi Facility Centre. Initiated by Meghalaya Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma the programme is being implemented through the department of commerce and industries under the Integrated Basin Development & Livelihood Promotion programme. The programme aims at upgrading the skills of trained entrepreneurs through advanced training besides providing production and quality management. Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma who attended the programme informed that 480 entrepreneurs will be sent for advanced training and production management wherein half will be trained solely in quality soap production while the other half in other herbal cosmetics produces. Emphasizing on quality management Dr Sangma said that the government had tied up with agencies for quality control and post production value addition. Speaking on setting up specialized infrastructures the Chief Minister said that Rural Entrepreneurship Centres fitted with production equipments would be set up at different locations to facilitate cottage industries engaged in making herbal produces like soaps, handwash etc. He stated that through proper quality management and adequate advertisement through digital media these produces could become very much sought after in the near future. |
