Press Release No. 488/15 PM LAUNCH PMKVY ON WORLD YOUTH SKILLS DAY Shillong, July 15, 2015: The Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi formally launched the flagship scheme of Skill Development, the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) and the Skill Loan Scheme and also unveiled the National Policy for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship 2015 and the National Skill Development Mission document at a function held today at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The launching of the skill development programmes is part of the World Youth Skills Day being celebrated for the first time in India. The entire idea of celebrating the World Youth Skills Day on a large scale is to underscore the significance of skilling, vocational education and entrepreneurship amongst the youth of the country so that they become an integral part of the growth story of India, besides carving out a career trajectory for themselves. In Meghalaya, World Youth Skills Day was celebrated at the State Convention Centre, Shillong in the august presence of the Chief Secretary, Government of Meghalaya, Mr. Barkos Warjri as the Chief Guest. Speaking on the occasion Mr. Warjri said that the Meghalaya State Skills Development Society (MSSDS) has done a commendable job in skilling the youth of the State and providing them with employment. “We need to produce enough manpower through these skill development programmes so that the youths get gainful employment in the various sectors”, said Mr. Warjri while highlighting the need for the overall development of the State and the country as a whole. Others who spoke included CEO, MSSDS, Mr. K. N. Kumar, Deputy CEO, MSSDS, Mr. Pankaj Jain and Development Commissioner, Mr. R. M Mishra. On the day the Chief Guest distributed prizes to the winners of the extempore speech conducted during the programme. The Chief Guest along with the other dignitaries also released FAQs on Skill Development in Meghalaya and 100 Success Stories. Earlier, the Labour Department, Meghalaya in collaboration with Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Guwahati also celebrated World Youth Skills Day at the Government Industrial Training Institute, Shillong wherein Meghalaya Chief Secretary, Mr. Barkos Warjri was the Chief Guest. Also present on the occasion were the Principal Secretary, Labour, Mr. M. S. Rao, Commissioner & Secretary, Labour, Mr. T Dkhar and Mr. Chris Cajee of CII Guwahati. It may be mentioned that ITI Shillong was selected from the 13 ITIs shortlisted by the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship for an interaction session with the Prime Minister of India through Distance Learning Programme. On the occasion, the Chief Guest distributed Placement Offer Letters to 18 trainees and also NTC certificates to ITI Graduates while Mr. Cajee handed over NCVT certificates to successful trainees under CTS and SDI schemes. |
